Football Bet of the Day: Barca to rack up the goals

It does feel like slim pickings for football matches on Tuesday but there is a range of Copa del Rey fixtures taking place in Spain, with defending champions Barcelona in action at third-tier side CD Guadalajara (20:00 GMT, Premier Sports 1).

CD Guadalajara vs Barcelona Odds

The hosts sit 17th in Group A of the Primera Federacion and they have just two wins from their past six outings in all competitions. They are 20/1 to prevail in regulation time, and 12/1 to win the cup tie.

It's 8/1 for a draw, while Barcelona are the 1/9 favourites to claim victory inside 90 minutes.

The visitors head here in good spirits with seven wins from their last eight matches in all competitions as they gear up for their first Copa del Rey appearance of the season.

With the gulf in class on paper between the Blaugrana and their hosts, this should be a very comfortable victory for Hansi Flick's side. But seeing as the odds are not enticing enough for a straight victory, we have to get creative with this Bet of the Day selection.

I think there is value in backing Barca with a -3 handicap because even if the team is rotated, there is still a lot of quality in reserve that Flick can call upon in Guadalajara, and I think that the attacking players can put on a show.

In La Liga, Barcelona have recorded a whopping 49 goals in 17 matches, meaning they are averaging 2.9 per game. Barca have also mustered 14 goals in their six Uefa Champions League appearances this term, so their attacking threat is likely to send shivers down the spines of the hosts' defenders.

With a -3 handicap market, if you are unfamiliar, this gives CD Guadalajara a hypothetical 3-0 lead coming into the game and it means that Barcelona have to score at least four goals (and that is without the hosts scoring themselves) for this selection to be a winner.

Given the attacking resources that Flick has at his disposal, coupled with the good form his side are in, this is achievable for the visitors.

With the likes of Ferran Torres, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo amongst others, Barca have plenty of firepower and if all of them were to feature in this contest, the home team could be in for a long night.

There have been five occasions in all competitions this season in which Barcelona have scored at least four goals in a single game, and they have won with a -3 handicap on three of those occasions.

They were 6-0 and 4-0 home victories in the league against Valencia and Athletic Club respectively, and a 6-1 home triumph over Olympiakos in the Champions League.

As the current Copa del Rey holders, Barcelona will want to venture far in this competition in the hopes of claiming a record-extending 33rd title. This team scored a lot of goals on their way to success last term, and each of their first three fixtures in the competition in 2024/25 saw them win with a -3 handicap.

They posted a 4-0 win at Barbastro at this stage of the competition, before defeating La Liga rivals Real Betis 5-1 at home, and then going on to hammer Valencia 5-0 away.
