Football Bet of the Day: Danes can bring the heat to Turkey on Thursday

There are a lot of matches taking place on Thursday across the UEFA Europa League and Conference League as the second round of qualifying gets underway. In the former, Besiktas host Midtjylland (9pm local time/7pm BST) as Vincenzo Italiano takes charge of his first competitive match for the hosts.

Besiktas vs Midtjylland Odds

Besiktas are winless in their last three competitive outings and they are a 21/20 bet to win this first leg.

It's 21/10 for Midtjylland to come away with the victory, which they have managed in four of their five pre-season friendlies this summer.

Their other game was a draw, with a stalemate here valued at 23/10.

Both teams have scored in each of Besiktas' last two fixtures and BTTS - Yes here is marketed at 8/11.

It's the dawn of a new era at Besiktas with Italiano at the helm. The former Bologna boss will be charged with getting the Black Eagles back to the top of Turkish football, having last won the Super Lig in 2020/21.

Besiktas failed to qualify for the league phase in either the Europa League or Conference League last term, so there will be pressure on their new head coach to deliver at the first time of asking.

With the club having frequently made changes in the dugout in recent years, it may take a while for Italiano to find his feet in his new surroundings. This is not ideal when coming into a European qualifier, especially against a side like Midtjylland.

The Wolves are not to be underestimated following their performance in the league phase last term. They picked up some impressive victories on their travels, including against Nottingham Forest. They defeated the Tricky Trees twice at the City Ground, once during the first stage and then in the round of 16.

The Danish side head to Turkey on the back of some strong pre-season form, too. They've won four from five matches, including each of the previous three, scoring 17 goals in the process.

This brings me on to my selection, which is Over 3.5 Goals. Priced at an enticing 9/4 (implied probability of 30.8%), this bet has been a winner in each of Midtjylland's four most recent outings and I believe this trend will continue into the Europa League.

There were also at least four goals scored in Besiktas' latest fixture against Spartak Trnava, so you get the sense the hosts might be vulnerable against the visitors' in-form attackers.

Over 3.5 Goals has also landed in three of the hosts' last four UEFA qualifiers, which came in the Europa League and Conference League in 2025/26.
