Football bet of the day

Day four of the FIFA World Cup has some interesting games in store. The most attractive fixture on Sunday sees the Netherlands face Japan (9pm BST/3pm local, ITV1/STV) at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

I think there is some real betting value in this clash and so I have picked my latest Football Bet of the Day from this fixture, and you can check out all the details below.

Football Bet of the Day - 14 June 2026

Netherlands vs Japan Odds

The Netherlands are EVS to win this Group F contest and they won six of their eight World Cup qualifiers.

The last meeting was a draw in a friendly back in 2013, and the stalemate here can be backed at 5/2.

Japan are a 5/2 shot to extend their winning streak to seven matches.

I like the look of both these sides, so the result seems tough to call. As a result, I'm steering very clear of any selections that determine the outcome of the game.

For my Bet of the Day, though, I've been pulled into the new glamorous Bet Builder markets Betfred have to offer and I have put together an enticing two-legged 9/1 bet.

Looking at the variety of player markets available using Betfred's new Sub Switch offer, I've gone to the Player To Score market to pick out two key individuals for the two teams.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Cody Gakpo has 6 goals in his two major tournament appearances for the Netherlands
  • Gakpo bagged 4 goals in World Cup qualifying
  • Ayase Ueda scored 24 goals in 31 Eredivisie appearances in 2025/26

Firstly, I have picked out Cody Gakpo for the Netherlands. He's had a rather disappointing year with Liverpool, scoring just seven goals in the Premier League. He's been scapegoated by the supporters more than most of his teammates, so the World Cuop offers him a chance to try and rediscover his confidence.

The good news for him is that he seems to be far more consistent when playing for his country, having bagged 19 goals in 48 outings to date. He scored four times in qualifying, while he boasts six goals across his two major tournament appearances for De Oranje (World Cup 2022 and Euro 2024).

I think he'll have a key role to play for Ronald Koeman's side this summer, starting against Japan.

For the Samurai Blue, I've selected their main striker, Ayase Ueda. He's gone to North America on the back of a fine campaign in front of goal for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. The 27-year-old scored 24 in 31 league matches.

His record for Japan isn't too bad, either. Ueda has netted 16 in 39 games so far, including eight in 11 World Cup qualifiers. I think he's a key reason why many people believe the Samurai Blue are a dark horse at this tournament.
