Football bet of the day

On Monday the Afcon gets into full swing, and we have a Premier League encounter between Fulham and Nottingham Forest to look forward to.

However, for Monday’s Football Bet of the Day takes us to Turkey, as I think there’s value to be had by backing a goalscorer. Read on to find out more.

Genclerbirligi vs Trabzonspor Odds

Trabzonspor travel to face Genclerbirligi on Monday afternoon (17:00 GMT), bidding to close the gap on the top two. At the time of writing they sit third, four points behind Fenerbahce and it feels as though they have an outside shot of launching an improbable title tilt having finished way down in seventh in 2024/25.

They are favourites to go and win this away game, and I’d be keen to side with them given Genclerbirligi sit 16th and have failed to score in three of their last four outings. However, I think there’s better value in backing a Trabzonspor goalscoer in this game, given they are looking so dangerous going forward.

Interestingly, I’m making this picture when top scorer Paul Onuachu (11 goals in 15 league matches) has jetted off to play for Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations. In his absence, I’m hoping other players will step up to the plate and Ernest Muci is the one that has caught my eye.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Ernest Muci has six goals in his last four league games
  • Paul Onuachu is away at Afcon with Nigeria

The number 10 is on loan from Besiktas, but is in flying form and was allowed to play against his former club in Trabzonspor’s last out. He scored in the 25th minute in what was an entraling 3-3 draw and that continued his run of scoring in his last four league games.

He now has six goals in his last four matches, having not scored in nine prior to that - but the move from playing on the wing to the number 10 role seems to have unlocked his full potential, and now he is playing some of the best football of his career.

When Onuachu is leading the line it feels as though the team are creating chances for him, whereas with Felipe Augusto leading the line, he is slightly more unselfish and chances fall elsewhere. That all leads me to believe that Muci is the man we should be looking at for a goal, at a decent price given his current form.
