Football bet of the day

We’ve come to the end of the first working week following the World Cup, and it does feel like we are all taking a collective breath. The intensity of the international game and everything that went with it this summer has been exhausting, but club football has continued to rumble on in the background.

It means that I am returning to familiar territory for Friday’s Football Bet of the Day, which you can find below.

Cerro Porteno vs Sportivo Trinidense Odds

The Division de Honor (Paraguayan Primera Division) returns this weekend as the Clausura begins. The Apertura ended at the end of May with Olimpia the runaway champions, but the Paraguayan sides will do it all over again in the second half of 2026.

Cerro Porteno get their second season of the year underway with a home test against my adopted Paraguayan outfit, Sportivo Trinidense (10.30pm BST). El Ciclon finished third in the Apertura, just one point behind Nacional, and there’s hopes that they could climb even higher this time around.

Ariel Holan took charge of Cerro on April 1 of this year and has won six of his 14 games in charge, and Trinidense beat them 3-1 on matchday 21 of 22 in the Apertura, but I’m confident in Cerro Porteno based upon their performances in the Copa Libertadores.

Football Odds

They topped their group with four wins out of six, beating Brazilian league leaders Palmeiras away from home in a notable win. That’s a significant achievement and they could be dangerous in the knockout stages of that competition, but I’m also expecting them to go well domestically.

Trinidense, as much as they have found a place in my heart over the last 12 months, don’t seem to quite be on the same level. They finished fifth in the Apertura after an inconsistent end to the season, and they were really poor on the road, winning just two of 11 away games, which ultimately cost them big time.

But, they do love goals at both ends. Their last seven games have ended BTTS - Yes, and so I’ll add that into the mix to give us a big price for Friday’s Football Bet of the Day. I’ll back Cerro Porteno to begin their Clausura campaign with a win over Sportivo Trinidense, with both teams likely to get on the scoresheet at 3/1.
