Football bet of the day

Newcastle United welcome AFC Bournemouth to St. James' Park on Saturday (15:00 GMT) in the third round of the FA Cup. Both teams will be brimming confidence after claiming Premier League victories in midweek, with the hosts beating Leeds United and the Cherries defeating Tottenham Hotspur.

I am expecting an exciting battle in the North East and my Football Bet of the Day comes from this contest. You can check it out below.

Newcastle vs Bournemouth Odds

Newcastle have won three games on the spin and they are 5/6 to win this game in regulation time.

Bournemouth have drawn two of their previous three away trips and the stalemate is available at 11/4. The Cherries are 3/1 to stun the Magpies.

But it is the goal markets I am turning to for my Bet of the Day and the one that jumps out at me is Both Teams To Score and Over 3.5 Goals, which is valued at 9/5. This has as implied probability of 35.7% but recent games for both clubs make this an attractive selection.

Newcastle won a seven-goal thriller against Leeds here on Wednesday and the market I have picked out for Saturday has struck in three of their last five matches, with two of them coming on home turf.

For Bournemouth, a huge weight was lifted off their shoulders on Wednesday as they ended an 11-game winless streak in the Premier League by beating Tottenham 3-2 at the Vitality Stadium - it's looking good for my pick, right?

The game was won by Antoine Semenyo in stoppage time, in what was his final kick for the club.

The winger signed for Manchester City in a deal valued at around £62.5m on Thursday. His departure leaves a void that the Cherries will need to fill, and they will likely be looking to replace him effectively before the month is out.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • BTTS - Yes & Over 3.5 Goals has landed in three of Newcastle's last five matches
  • This bet has landed in five of Bournemouth's past six games - including each of their previous four

This selection has been a common trend for the visitors recently, with five of their previous six fixtures seeing both teams find the net and the game featuring at least four goals - including each of their last four appearances.

So all this evidence points towards this match potentially being the most exciting tie of the round - especially if both sides can keep up their good scoring form.

Both clubs have come a long way since their drab 0-0 meeting on the South Coast back in September, with both sets of attackers sharpening up in the final third since then.

The two teams are faring well for goals as far as the Premier League is concerned. Newcastle have 32 goals thus far to Bournemouth's 34, further suggesting that this cup tie could be one to look forward to.

There are set to be a lot of players out on the pitch who can chip in for goals, particularly Newcastle, with captain and midfielder Bruno Guimaraes already posting his best return for goals in a single league campaign for the Magpies (eight).

It's actually a shame this one wasn't picked up for live broadcast in the UK, because this could indeed be a spectacle.
