Huddersfield Town will host Leicester City in the first round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (20:00, Sky Sports+), with the Terriers having made a flying start to the season. Lee Grant has taken to life as a manager like a duck to water, with two wins from two.
Town are one of the favourites for promotion from League 1 this term, along with the likes of Luton Town after their summer spending. Alfie May was probably the headline arrival from Birmingham City but Ryan Ledson brings a vast amount of experience to the midfield.
Huddersfield vs Leicester Odds
Back in January, the Terriers splashed out £750k on Bolton striker Dion Charles, and the 29-year-old is the focus of our Football Bet of the Day. Given both Huddersfield and Leicester are striving to achieve promotions from different divisions this term, we can expect plenty of changes on both sides.
Charles is yet to start a league game this season, coming off the bench twice, so we can be near-certain that he will be given the opportunity to start in this cup clash. He should lead the line for an entertaining Huddersfield outfit that looks to be flying in an attacking sense and his goal record speaks for itself.
He got 16 and 14 goals in back-to-back League 1 campaigns and last season he got seven for Bolton in the first half of the season before failing to find the net for the Terriers in the league after his January move.
I’m not too worried about that stat, and believe he can take advantage of a rare start this season. Leicester will be expected to win this game without a doubt. But after Sheffield Wednesday gave them a scare on the opening day, and they came through to win, I just think they can be got at from a defensive standpoint.
Wout Faes came off the bench to score the winner but defensively Leicester didn’t look all that solid against a weak Wednesday outfit. As a result I think they are bound to concede against a vibrant Huddersfield team, with Charles the most likely goalscorer at a big price.
