The U21 European Championship is up and running, and now we have seen every team at least once, we have some idea of the level of their current ability. France U21 are back in action having dramatically won their second fixture in injury time, and they face Poland U21 (17:00), who are already out after two defeats from two.

This is where our Football Bet of the Day for Tuesday, June 17 comes from, which you can find below.

France U21 vs Poland U21 Odds

After drawing 0-0 with Portugal, France’s 3-2 win over Georgia was one of the most entertaining games of football you are likely to see. The French youngsters looked as though they had thrown away three points as they conceded twice in the final 15 minutes following Mathys Tel’s penalty conversion.

However, they equalised through Johann Lepenant in the 89th minute, before VAR ruled out what they thought was the winner in the 94th minute. Despite that, Thierno Barry came up with a goal with the last touch of the game in the 102nd minute to secure a dramatic three points in the opening fixture.

Backing them to win big may not be to everyone’s taste given they struggled to get past Georgia, but that may underestimate the quality of a Georgian outfit who could go well this summer. They are a nation that is starting to produce quality young players, and France will be glad to have got out of that opening fixture unscathed.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • France U21 have won one and drawn one of their group matches so far
  • Tel has one goal to his name at the U21 Euros
  • Poland U21 lost 5-0 to Portugal U21 in their last fixture

Their final group stage test against Poland looks far more palatable. Poland have picked up zero points from their two matches so far, losing 2-1 to Georgia in the 94th minute, before getting hammered 5-0 by Portugal last time out.

That display was worrying, but I don’t think the pain is going to stop for Poland as they face this talented France outfit. Level on points with Portugal, it is likely to come down to goal difference to decide who tops the group, and so France cannot afford to let up at any stage if they want an easier quarter-final draw.

I’m going to pick out Tottenham Hotspur striker Mathys Tel to find the net on two or more occasions, given he has started both group games so far and was moved into a central role against Georgia. He converted that penalty in his last outing and I think will get up and running with a few more goals against Poland.

I’m expecting this to be one-way traffic from the off and there’s no reason to believe that France won’t secure a similar result to the one that Portugal managed against Poland. If that is the case, then Tel should be able to fill his boots, and the price for him to score two or more is generous on that theory.
