Football Bet of the Day: League 2 encounter can produce goals

The Champions League quarter-finals may hold the majority of the attention on Tuesday night, and rightly so, but we’ve also got an intriguing League 2 clash coming our way between Salford City and Doncaster Rovers (19:45, Sky Sports+).
Let’s head down the Peninsula Stadium to try and bag ourselves a big winner for today’s Football Bet of the Day.
Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday, April 15
- Salford to win and BTTS @ 5/1

Salford sit down in the 10th at the time of writing, but they have a real chance of finishing in the play-offs after a brilliant upturn in form. They now sit just five points behind the top-seven, and this is their game in hand which if we do the maths - means they could be just two points behind Grimby Town by the end of play on Tuesday.
That’s a real dangling carrot for Karl Robinson and his side, although they face one of the best teams in the league in the form of Doncaster Rovers. Billy Sharp and Co. still have aspirations of automatic promotion, and they know that a win will take them up to second, as they would leapfrog both Walsall and Bradford City.
It’s a massive game for both teams, and Grant McCann deserves credit for the sterling job he has done at the Eco-Power Stadium over the past couple of years. However, I think their seven-game unbeaten run is about to come to an end. For what it is worth, I think they are still in a good place to get promoted, but I just don’t like this midweek away game from a Rovers point of view.
First of all, they drew 1-1 at home with AFC Wimbledon last time out, and Billy Sharp is now suspended having been shown a red card less than a minute after coming on as a substitute. That result may seem alright given that sending off, but Wimbledon had Alistair Smith sent off after just five minutes and Donny still couldn’t get the better of them.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Salford are unbeaten in their last five
- Both teams have scored in their last four Salford games
- Doncaster have scored in the most League 2 games this season (34)
Meanwhile, Salford put in a superb display to hammer Notts County 3-1 away from home on Friday night. They had six shots on target compared to County’s two, and managed to get the better of a team that are also in contention to finish in the top three. Robinson appears to have found his perfect formula, and his side are now unbeaten in five games since losing 4-0 at home to Chesterfield.
Kelly N'Mai and Cole Stockton are providing plenty of firepower up top, while we have always known that Ben Woodburn has the talent to play higher than the fourth tier. I think there is plenty of quality in the final third that can trouble Donny, a team that have played against 10-men in their last two outings and not looked that impressive in either game.
We can also factor in the extra rest the home side have had, given they played on Friday and Doncaster drew on Saturday, which leads me to believe the Ammies can edge it. Now, Rovers are no mugs, and I’m going to back them to score to boost our odds. They actually boast the best away record in League 2 this season having amassed 34 points from 20 away games, but I just feel they could come up short against in-form Salford.
Both teams have scored in the last four Salford outings, while no team at this level have scored in as many games as Doncaster have this term (34). I’ll go for an entertaining encounter in Salford, but let’s back the home side to come out on top at a big price.
