Football Bet of the Day: Title decider in Portgual catches the eye

Despite the end of the football season looming large, we’ve got a stack of action to get stuck into on Saturday for our Football Bet of the Day. There’s some Premier League matches going on, a couple of play-offs fixtures from the EFL and of course some elite games to delve into from across the continent.
Talking of which, we are jetting off to Portugal for Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day, which you can find below.

As the great Elton John once wrote - “Saturday’s night’s alright…” for a Liga Portugal title decider? I agree Elton. This game, which kicks off at 18:00 on TrillerTV+ if you want to tune in from the UK, is genuinely must-watch this weekend.
The two giants have gone toe-to-toe all season and it has led us to this stage with two games to go, with them level on 78 points apiece. Although Sporting CP boast a marginally better goal difference, that won’t come into play as the league is decided on head-to-head record if the teams are level on points.
Given Sporting won the home fixture 1-0, only a win by the same scoreline for Benfica, followed by a defeat on the final day will bring that into play. To make it simple for you, if Sporting avoid defeat in this away game, all they have to do is beat Vitoria at home on the final day to be crowned champions and retain the title they won last year.
If they win on Saturday, the title is theirs, given Benfica will be three points behind them heading into the last gameweek having lost both head-to-head matches. Now, the Eagles have a great home record this term as you would expect, given they are tussling for the title. They’ve won 14 of 16, drawing one and losing one, to Braga back in January.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Sporting have the best away record in the league
- Viktor Gyokeres has 38 goals in 31 league games this season
- Sporting have to avoid defeat to keep the title in their hands ahead of the final day
Bruno Lage rejoined the club back in September and has done a great job, as he looks to add to the title he won here in 2019. However, they are coming up against a Sporting outfit that has amassed more away points than anyone else in the league, having won 11, drawn four and lost just one on the road - to Moreirense during a three-game losing streak in December.
That’s been their only real wobble this campaign in a season that has also seen them hammer Manchester City in the Champions League. The loss of Ruben Amorim hasn’t affected them too much and Rui Borges deserves huge credit for the work he has done since joining from Vitoria.
I think they can get what they need here, which brings me on to our Football Bet of the Day. Sporting will know they can down their title rivals for good if they win, but they will also be happy to settle for a draw and deal with things on the final day. I think they will get one or the other thanks to one man.
Viktor Gyokeres is a freak of a striker and is surely playing his last couple of games for the club before a mega-money summer move. He is the reason they won the title last season and with 38 goals in 31 league games this season, he is certain to win another Golden Boot. To put that tally in perspective, he’s scored 20 more goals than the next-highest goalscorer in the division, Benfica’s Vangelis Pavlidis.
That’s just insane. 16 goals in his last 10 league matches has taken him to another level, and if he can deliver again in the biggest game, he could secure the title for Sporting. A decent price of 9/5 is available for our Football Bet of the Day.
