Football Bet of the Day: That’s why we go to Iceland

Once again, we are turning our attention away from the Club World Cup and towards the lesser-known European leagues for our Football Bet of the Day. This Thursday, we are heading up to the far north, to take a look at a fixture from the quarter-finals of the Icelandic Men’s Football Cup.
Check out the Football Bet of the Day for Thursday, June 19, down below.

- Valur to win and BTTS No @ 3/1

Valur, currently fourth in Iceland’s Besta deild (top division), are 11-time winners of this domestic cup, but they’ve gone some time without a victory, last picking up the trophy in 2016. They are one of the biggest and best teams in Iceland but have fallen away from the top of the tree in recent years, with their last league title coming in 2020.
However, the assistant manager during that title-winning campaign, Srdjan Tufegdzic, is now back in charge of the club, and things are looking reasonably good for them right now. 11 games into the 2025 season, which is played over the spring and summer due to the climate, they sit fourth, just five points adrift of current league leaders Knattspyrnufélagið Víkingur. Try typing that one out if you forget your gloves in Reykjavik.
This is a strong squad for the level and their cup run has taken them all the way to the quarter-final stage, where they will face fellow top division outfit, IBV. Now, I’m going to side with Valur to get the job done and reach the final four for a few reasons.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Valur sit fourth in Iceland's top flight
- IBV have scored 12 league goals in 11 games
- Valur won 3-0 when they met last month
First of all, IBV sit down in eighth in the Besta delid, having lost five of their 11 league fixtures so far. They’ve also struggled for goals, scoring just 12 in those top-flight games, averaging a smidgen above one-per-90. The other reason is what happened when these two met in the league, just a few weeks ago on May 24.
Unlike this upcoming cup match, the league clash was played at Valur’s home ground in the capital, and they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. They raced into a three-goal lead in the first half and limited the opposition to just 29% possession and one shot on target.
These are the same two teams meeting at a different venue, in a different competition, but I can’t see their being a major turnaround in less than a month. I’m confident in backing Valur to get the job done in 90 minutes, while I will also back them to keep IBV out again. As I’ve mentioned, goalscoring has been a real issue for the home side so far in 2025, and they’ve only managed to turn up on a couple of occasions in the cup.
Valur are a strong outfit, and I’d back them to repeat the performance they produced in that 3-0 win. Confidence will be high heading into this one, and I think we are getting cracking odds on them to secure another win to nil.
