Football Bet of the Day: Uruguayan promotion race hots up

England’s Lionesses are in action on Saturday, while the Club World Cup hots up over in the United States of America, but once again our Football Bet of the Day looks for value in South America.
Tacuarembo host Atenas de San Carlos in Uruguay’s second tier (20:00 BST), and it is this crunch clash that features our selection. Read on for Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day.
Football Bet of the Day - Saturday, July 5
- Tacuarembo to beat Atenas and BTTS No @ 13/5
*odds correct at time of publication
I’m going to back the home side to come out on top of this crucial encounter, as I think they offer value based on what we have seen so far. Tacuarembo currently sit second in the league, just two points off the top of the table, and given that the top two in the division win automatic promotion to the Primera Division - they are in a great spot after 14 matches.
Tacuarembo have won nine and drawn three of those 14 fixtures so they are clearly an elite side at this level. But it is their terrific home form that gets them the nod this Saturday at the Raul Goyenola Stadium, as I believe they will keep up an impressive winning streak in front of their own fans.
They’ve now made it seven wins in a row on home soil, with six of those victories coming with the added bonus of a clean sheet. Their defensive record is terrific, and they’ve only conceded nine goals in total this term - giving them the second-tightest defence in the division.
Uruguay’s second division is littered with red cards, which can often change the dynamics of a game, but Tacuarembo look to have found the winning formula at home and it’s dragged them within touching distance of promotion.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Tacuarembo have won seven in a row on home soil
- Six of those victories have been to nil
- They beat Atenas 1-0 in the final of the Torneo Competencia in May
Now their opponents are no mugs, as Atenas sit fourth and harbour promotion aspirations of their own - but they’ve been difficult to judge as of late. First of all, their last four matches have all featured red cards, with their opponents picking up three of those.
They lost 2-0 at home to Rentistas with 10 men last time out, and prior to that, secured two victories and a draw all against 10 men. This is going to be a far tougher test, and I think they will be in for somewhat of a lesson facing 11 men away at a place that has been such a fortress this season.
These two did meet this season already in the final of the Torneo Competencia - the first part of the season. Tacuarembo won that game 1-0 in May, guaranteeing them at least a spot in the promotion play-offs at the end of the season. With that insurance, and with their eyes now set on automatic promotion, Tacuarembo should be a top-flight club next term.
Another home win to nil would take them a step closer to their dream, and it’s our Football Bet of the Day for Saturday at 13/5.
