Football Bet of the Day: Paraguayan Clausura begins in earnest

If you’ve been a keen reader of my Football Bet of the Day in recent weeks, you’ll be well aware of my infatuation with the country of Paraguay and their regular football offerings over the summer.
This Friday night, I’ve brought you another dose of South American magic, although this time I’m focusing on the top tier - the Primera Division - as Deportivo Recoleta host Sportivo Trinidense (22:30 BST). Read on to find my Football Bet of the Day for Friday.
Football Bet of the Day - Friday, July 4
- Sportivo Trinidense to beat Deportivo Recoleta @ 6/5
*odds correct at time of publication
The Torneo Clausura (Closing Tournament) of the Primera Division in Paraguay, gets underway this weekend as the second season of 2025 begins. After 22 league fixtures, Libertad were crowned winners of the Torneo Apertura, but after a month off, football returns in Paraguay this weekend.
Deportivo Recoleta vs Sportivo Trinidense Odds
Now, the Torneo Clausura is completely separate from the Apertura, so every team starts again on zero points and we are essentially at the start of a new campaign. Although it is slightly different for our predictions as the short gap means there should be more continuity in terms of results and that’s what I’m backing here.
Deportivo Recoleta finished seventh in the Apertura, out of 12 teams in the league, and are a relatively average side in Paraguay. 27 points from 22 fixtures isn’t anything too special, and they will hope to crack the top half once this new campaign gets underway.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Deportivo Recoleta finished seventh in the Apertura
- Trinidense won four and drew one of their last five games
In truth, this is more about Sportivo Trinidense as they are in my eyes, a team that could contend for the top two places in the league. Let me explain. In the Apertura, they finished fourth, 10 points behind the eventual champions.
That seems like a big gap to close, but Trinidense were in flying form as the season came to an end. They won four and drew one of their last five games of the Apertura, and perhaps more importantly, only lost four games all season.
The reason they weren’t closer to top spot is because of the massive number of draws they racked up - 10 in total - the highest figure in the division. Club Guarani, who finished in third, lost twice as many games as Trinidense but still accumulated four more points than the Asuncion-based outfit.
If they can turn three or four of those draws into wins, they will be right up there - and they looked to have cracked the code in May. Importantly for this selection, these two met on gameweek 21 and Trinidense secured a 2-1 away win on the road, before beating Guarani on the final day.
I think they should pick up where they left off and begin their push for a top-two finish with three points. Sportivo Trinidense to beat Deportivo Recoleta is our Football Bet of the Day at 6/5.
