Football Bet of the Day: England U19 to produce the goals

England’s youngsters are in two competitions this summer as the U21s try to defend their title in Slovakia, while the U19s are looking to create something special in nearby Romania. That’s our focus for Friday’s Football Bet of the Day as England U19 face Netherlands U19 (18:00) in their crucial final group game.
Check out the Football Bet of the Day for Friday, June 20, down below.
Football Bet of the Day - Friday, June 20
- Netherlands U19 vs England U19 - Over 3.5 goals @ 13/8

England’s Euros campaign hasn’t quite gone to plan so far. They were one of the favourites to win this tournament in Romania but Will Antwi’s side have drawn their opening two group matches in dramatic fashion. It means that qualification from Group B is still up in the air and they may need to beat the Netherlands to get into the knockout stages.
Meanwhile, the Dutch are sitting pretty having already topped the group with two wins from two. They beat Norway 2-0 having smashed Germany 3-0 in their opener, meaning their spot in the semi-finals is already secured. The fact England have to win and the Netherlands may rest and rotate means that I am going to steer clear of backing a result for our Football Bet of the Day, and instead turn my attention to goals.
I think we are getting an inflated value on there being over 3.5 goals in this game, based on what we have seen so far, especially from England. The Dutch, as I’ve mentioned above, have scored five goals without concession in their two group games so far, with Ayoub Oufkir, Don-Angelo Konadu and Kees Smit all looking dangerous going forward.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- England U19 drew 5-5 with Germany U19 last time out
- Netherlands U19 have scored five goals in two games
Meanwhile, England have produced two thrilling encounters in their group matches to date. Their opener was a 2-2 draw with Norway, with Sunderland’s promotion hero Tom Watson - now of Brighton - getting on the scoresheet before Mikey Moore converted a penalty.
Netherlands U19 vs England U19 Odds
However it was the second game which really caught the eye, as they fell 5-1 down to the Germans before launching an improbable second half comeback to draw 5-5. That’s one of the highest scoring tournament games you are likely to see, but it exposed the strengths and weaknesses of these Young Lions.
The defence has been atrocious so far, conceding seven in 180 minutes, with Manchester City’s Stephen Mfuni and Nottingham Forest’s Zach Abbott playing in front of Arsenal’s Tommy Setford. But the attack is sensational, with goals coming from all over the park. Ethan Wheatley and Jesse Shaun Derry were just two of the goalscorers against Germany, with Moore missing the game having rolled his ankle at the end of the Norway game.
I think England will produce plenty of goals in this clash, while their defence still doesn’t fill me with confidence, especially up against a Dutch side that has been lethal so far in Romania. Even though they have nothing to play for, I don’t see this being a low-scoring affair, so the value lies in backing over 3.5 goals for Friday’s Football Bet of the Day.
