Scotland World Cup Top Scorer Odds: McTominay’s exploits on the continent could stand him above the rest

Scotland are back at the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 28 years and the Tartan Army are going to soak up every minute, as well as the sun, out in North America in the coming weeks. Steve Clarke's side are in a tough Group C featuring five-time champions Brazil, Morocco and Haiti.
Who in Scotland's ranks can step up to give them a fighting chance of reaching the knockout stage? Below I take a look at the Scotland World Cup Top Scorer Odds.
Scotland World Cup Top Scorer Odds
Scott McTominay @ 11/4
The only way has been up for Scott McTominay since leaving Manchester United in 2024. Despite goal contributions for the Red Devils, the midfielder wasn't truly appreciated at Old Trafford because he didn't suit the system he was in.
Moving to Napoli, Antonio Conte refined him into a combative No. 10, as McTominay helped the Azzurri to win Serie A in his debut campaign, while scooping up the division's MVP award.
McTominay has bagged 27 goals in his two years in Italy, and his confidence has streamed into his international performances, too. In his first five years as a Scotland international, he scored just once. He's since netted 13 across the past four years and he's been involved in 15 goals since the start of 2023.
McTominay grabbed headlines with a bicycle kick in Scotland's decisive qualifier against Denmark, and he's going to be the figurehead of this North American adventure.
He was also their top scorer at Euro 24 with just a single goal.
Lawrence Shankland @ 9/2
Lawrence Shankland was the joint-second top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership last season, finding the net on 16 occasions in Hearts' title charge. The striker, who has recently signed for Rangers, has six goals in 19 appearances for his country to date.
The 30-year-old is in the most confident mood of his career and he could be in line for a lot of minutes at the World Cup, potentially at the expense of Che Adams or Lyndon Dykes.
Shankland is the classic tale of a player improving as they get older. The 30-year-old may lack for pace but his game intelligence should be a huge asset for Scotland over the coming weeks.
He was on the scoresheet in that legendary Denmark game, even if his goal wasn't as glamorous as McTominay's.

Che Adams @ 11/2
Adams does seem assured of a place in Clarke's starting XI because the head coach adores the attacker's selfless running and believes he's underappreciated for his efforts.
The Torino forward has 46 caps for Scotland so far and has provided 11 goals along the way. Two of them came in qualifying for the World Cup, but Adams will be hoping to become a greater threat on the world stage.
Adams has 15 goals in Serie A over the past two seasons and this added experience from another European environment will be counted as an added bonus for the Tartan Army.
John McGinn @ 8/1
Scotland's all-round midfielder John McGinn is no stranger to getting involved in the final third. The man nicknamed 'Meatball' has 20 goals for his country to date and heads to the World Cup off the back of his best-scoring campaign at club level.
McGinn scored 10 goals in all competitions for Aston Villa, including five in their run to UEFA Europa League glory. He brings plenty of experience to this Scotland team and he seems to have an eye for goal no matter where he plays.
