Scotland vs Greece Prediction: Back the hosts to get their revenge

Scotland prepare for another huge night at Hampden when hosting Greece in a vital World Cup qualifier. The pair clash on Thursday from 19:45 BST with BBC Two the channel to twitch to for live coverage.
Our Scottish Football tipster Frank Monkhouse expects the locals to send the Tartan Army into the weekend on a high as he takes us through his two Scotland vs Greece Predictions here on Betfred Insights...

It’s matchday three in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying Group C. Scotland enter second in the pool, behind current leaders Norway on goal difference.
Steve Clarke’s men collected four points from a possible six, and know a home win over the Greeks would greatly enhance their chances of attending next summer’s festival of football. Will the dark blues give the ever loyal Tartan Army something to cheer at a packed national stadium?
Greece travel to Glasgow following a defeat to Denmark last time out. The team, currently ranked 40th in the world, is already a point off the pace, leaving them at a crossroads.
Defeat in Glasgow would hamper their chances of progressing as pool winners, while victory would blow the race wide open. Greece thumped Scotland 3-0 here earlier this year. Can they repeat the feat and leave with all three points? Have your say at Betfred now.
Scotland vs Greece Predicted Lineups:
- Scotland: Gunn, Ralston, Souttar, McKenna, Robertson, McGinn, Gilmour, Ferguson, McTominay, Doak, Adams
- Greece: Tzolakis, Vagiannidis, Mavropanos, Koulierakis, Tsimikas, Zafeiris, Kourbelis, Karetsas, Bakasetas, Tzolis, Pavlidis
Match Odds:
Scotland and Greece are extremely well-matched, and that’s shown by the latest match-winner betting odds available on the Betfred app and site.
Both nations enter having won one of their previous two games in Group C, with the Scots carrying a goal difference of plus two, while the Greeks enter on plus one. The head-to-head stats sit at an even two wins each, with each side winning once at home and once on the road.
It’s no surprise to see a competitive pre-match betting market, but which set of players will battle to give their country a narrow edge? Fancy Scotland to beat Greece for the third time in four games, following a 1-0 home win in Glasgow and another in Piraeus?
You can back the locals at odds of 7/4 with Betfred. Prefer the chances of Greece, who aim for back-to-back wins at Hampden? You can support the visitors at 7/4 or play the draw at 21/10. I expect both selections to attract attention this week.

Scotland vs Greece Stats
- The two nations have met four times, with both having won twice.
- Scotland sit second in Group C with a win and a draw.
- Greece sit third having beaten Belarus but lost to Denmark
- Under 2.5 has come in for both Scotland matches but neither of Greece's so far in qualifying.
- BTTS is just at 25% for Scotland and Greece matches combined in Group C.
Under 2.5 goals
Our first prediction in Glasgow is for Scotland vs. Greece to end with fewer than three goals scored by both teams combined. A great bet for your international accumulators, the winning team and goalscorers aren’t important.
A 2-0 home win will land you the same prize as a 1-1 draw. If this match finishes with under three goals, you’ll boost your betting balance. You can sit on the fence, not worry about which team wins in such a balanced tie, and focus on goals.
The stats show a bet on under 2.5 goals would’ve secured you a profit in all but one of the four previous meetings. Three of those matches ended with a 1-0 final score. The spare was a 3-0 win for Greece at this venue back in March on a woeful night for the Tartan Army. Clarke’s men must show they’ve learned the painful lessons from that beating.

Scotland win
Our second recommendation to bettors comes with bigger odds attached, but we’ll need a share of luck. We’re picking Scotland to gain their revenge for that embarrassing loss less than seven months ago.
The home team are unbeaten so far, have a strong recent record here in qualifiers, and impressed when leaving Denmark with a share of the spoils. They must be at their best to defeat an aggressive opponent, but the crowd will play a major role in the outcome of this match.
Greece performed as expected when thumping Belarus 5-1 on matchday one, but slipped to a surprising 3-0 defeat at home to Denmark last time. That’s the same Danish side that Scotland kept out at Parken in front of more than 35,000 fans early last month.
Scotland must be organised in defence and patient with the ball against an all-action opponent, but the hosts have the skills and character to keep themselves in the mix.
