Norway can seal their place in the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup with a victory against Senegal on Tuesday (1am BST/Monday 8pm local) at the MetLife Stadium. The Lovene cruised to a 4-1 victory in their opener against Iraq, while Senegal suffered a defeat against France, and so they're at risk of elimination.

Team News

After a strong performance last time out against Iraq, Norway boss Stale Solbakken may be hesitant to make any unforced changes to his winning line-up against Senegal.

David Moller Wolfe is a doubt after being forced off in the second half, while Julian Ryerson had muscle fatigue at the end of the match. Leo Ostigard scored from the bench last time out and he may push for a start in defence.

Erling Haaland, who bagged a brace, should continue up front, with Alexander Sorloth and Antonio Nusa.

Martin Odegaard and Sander Berge will look to dominate the midfield again.

Senegal have no injury concerns heading into this clash, but Pape Thiaw might have a big call to make in attack.

Ibrahim Mbaye scored the Lions of Teranga's consolation goal against France, while Ismaila Sarr squandered an easy chance earlier in the game. The former could then take the latter's place against Norway.

Nicolas Jackson and Sadio Mane are expected to retain their spots in the final third.

Norway vs Senegal Predicted Lineups

  • Norway: Nyland; Ryerson, Heggem, Ajer, Wolfe; Odegaard, Berge, Aursnes; Sorloth, Haaland, Nusa
  • Senegal: Mendy; Diatta, Koulibaly, Niakhate, Diouf; Camara, I. Gueye, P. Gueye; Sarr, Jackson, Mane

Norway vs Senegal Odds

Norway have won each of their last 11 competitive fixtures and they're 6/5 to come out on top in New Jersey.

Senegal are an 11/5 shot to claim the three points, and they've six victories from their previous eight competitive outings.

The draw can be backed at 5/2.

Haaland had four shots on target against Iraq and he's 8/13 to repeat that feat against Senegal.

Norway vs Senegal Stats

  • Norway have scored at least twice in 10 of their last 11 competitive matches
  • Senegal have conceded 2 goals in 2 of their past 3 fixtures
  • Erling Haaland has 23 goals in his previous 14 appearances for Norway

Home Team Total Goals - Over 1.5 @ 11/10

This is a very exciting contest on paper, and the stakes are high because Senegal need to get a result, while Norway can secure their spot in the knockout stage. I think that this one is tough to call in terms of results-based selections, so I'm looking for value in the goal markets.

I'm drawn to the Home Team Total Goals market because Norway have been free-scoring for a long time, and they're generously priced at 11/10 (implied probability of 47.6%) to score at least twice on Tuesday.

They've managed this feat in 10 of their past 11 competitive fixtures, while Senegal have conceded at least two goals in two of their previous three matches.

Player To Score (Sub Switch) - Erling Haaland @ 20/23

Haaland's World Cup debut went swimmingly. The striker scored a brace against Iraq and he's thrown his hat into the ring for the Golden Boot. He's the player that Senegal need to be most concerned about because of his excellent goal record.

The centre-forward now has 23 goals across his last 14 appearances for his country, and he's blanked in just two of them. I'm covering him to score in Betfred's useful Sub Switch market, meaning that the bet will roll over to the player coming on if Haaland is substituted.

Norway vs Senegal Score Prediction

  • Norway 2-2 Senegal

This is a huge match for Senegal. They competed well against France for large parts of the game but they were ultimately undone by precise passing and movement once Les Bleus clicked.

Norway are going to be a tough opponent but Senegal have a talented bunch who can ask questions of the Lovene. As I don't want the Lions of Teranga to go home so early, I'm backing them to get a point.
