Haiti

Haiti are competing in only their second World Cup having made their maiden appearance back in 1974. The Grenadiers were eliminated after losing all three group games against Poland, Argentina and Italy and the current side may experience a similar fate this time around.

Up against Brazil and Morocco in Group C, Haiti’s best chance of putting points on the board may well be in the opener against Scotland though they go into the game as underdogs.

Ranked 83rd in the world, Sebastien Migne's side qualified for the World Cup after finishing above Honduras and Costa Rica to top CONCACAF Group C.

Since then, Haiti have won just one of their four friendlies in the build-up to the tournament, beating New Zealand 4-0 for a real confidence boost, drawing with Iceland and losing narrowly to Tunisia and Peru.

Scotland

While the Grenadiers won't be pushovers and look to keep the game tight, Scotland should possess enough quality in their ranks to open their tournament with a positive result having won their last two friendlies and scoring a total of eight goals in the process.

The Tartan Army watched the team beat Curacao 4-1 at the end of May before following up with a morale-enhancing 4-0 win over Bolivia a week ago.

Like Haiti, Scotland aren't expected to get the better of Brazil and Morocco in the group stage but, with eight of the best third-placed teams advancing, a victory could send Steve Clarke's men through.

Scotland topped their qualifying group to reach the World Cup with home wins over Greece and Denmark and have shown they have what it takes to compete.

The Scots have won six of their last nine games and are showing the consistency and togetherness required to get results in a summer tournament.

Haiti vs Scotland Key Players:

Duckens Nazon (Haiti)

Duckens Nazon is the all-time top scorer for Haiti having netted 44 goals in 82 matches for the Grenadiers. The 32-year-old frontman has netted at a rate of more than a goal every two games for his country and got on the scoresheet six times in qualifying for the World Cup.

Football League followers may be aware of Nazon as the striker spent time in England during the 2017-18 season. Signing for Wolves, the frontman was loaned out to Coventry City, where he netted eight goals in 24 games before scoring six in 16 for Oldham Athletic.

Since then, Nazon has also played in Scotland for St Mirren before appearing for Bulgarian outfit CSKA Sofia and Kayserispor in Turkey. The 32-year-old spent the 2025/26 campaign with Esteghlal in the Persian Gulf Pro League.

Together with Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor, Nazon will be Haiti’s main goal threat against the Scots.

Scott McTominay (Scotland)

Since leaving Manchester United for Napoli in 2024, Scott McTominay has become one of the most influential midfielders in Europe.

Helping the Naples club win the Serie A title in 2025 with 12 goals in 33 appearances, McTominay was named the league's Most Valuable Player.

Proving his big game credentials, the Napoli star scored an incredible overhead kick against Denmark in qualifying to help Scotland seal their spot in the World Cup.

McTominay's vast experience in Europe's top competitions will be vital if Scotland are to advance.
