Germany vs Ivory Coast Prediction: ‘Shock’ in store on Saturday night?

After their 7-1 thumping of Curacao, Germany face a much sterner test of their World Cup credentials on Saturday night (9pm BST, live on ITV) against Group E rivals Ivory Coast at the Toronto Stadium in Canada.

Germany are 8/15 to do the business in Toronto. That's an implied probability of 65%.

Ivory Coast are 5/1 (16%) to pick up another three points, while it's 16/5 about the draw.

BTTS - Yes is 4/5, while it's EVS about the opposite. Favourite to score the opener is Germany's Kai Havertz at 4/1.

Team News

There's no reason to expect many, if any changes to the Germany side that beat Curacao. If gaffer Julian Nagelsmann has decision to make, it's whether or not to introduce Stuttgart forward Deniz Undav, who scored one and assisted two against The Blue Wave. For Leroy Sane, perhaps?

Same goes for Ivory Coast. You don't mess with a winning formula, and all that. The possible change to Les Elephants' starting XI is the match-winner Amad Diallo in place of Nicolas Pepe on the right wing.

Double Chance - Draw or Ivory Coast @ 11/8

Ivory Coast are 5/1? One second, just checking again... yep, 5/1. I think that's very generous.

For all my eulogising about their opponents Ecuador, it wasn't a surprise to see Les Elephants make a winning start to their 2026 World Cup campaign.

This is a talented squad that didn't lose a single one of 10 qualifiers, winning eight and drawing the other two. Eighteen goals scored. Only two conceded.

They put four past South Korea, second in Group A, without reply in a friendly in March, a few days before a 1-0 victory over Scotland. Then, in their final preparation for this summer in North America, they beat a French side not far off full-strength 2-1.

There's talent all over the pitch. A rock-solid defence and flair on both wings through the likes of Yan Diomande and Amad Diallo. Franck Kessie is a force in the middle of the park, too.

The market is underestimating their chances against a German side we're yet to learn much about on Saturday night, but I'm not. Not for a second.

I couldn't put anyone off the aforementioned 5/1, which I really do believe is fantastic value, but I prefer the security of Double Chance, which covers the draw as well as an Ivory Coast victory. That'll do nicely.

I'm taking a chance on Amad, who scored from off the bench against France in the pre-tournament friendly and the same against Ecuador on Monday, starting and opening the scoring.

The 23-year-old Manchester United winger forward came on with just 36 minutes left to play against La Tricolor, yet managed two shots, including the one that hit the back of the net, and was second to teammate Yan Diomande only in the way of touches in the opposition box. He completed the most dribbles, too - of any player in the tournament so far, in fact.

His output is high, and I fancy his chances up against Nathaniel Brown on that right side of the pitch.

At odds of 11/1 - which thanks to DDHH would become 22/1 and 33/1 if he was to score the opener and get a second or third respectively - it's well worth a few quid.
