Ecuador vs Curacao Bet Builder Tips: 9/1 pick for La Tri success

Two defeated sides from Group E meet in the early hours of Sunday morning (1am BST, 7pm Saturday local, BBC One), as Ecuador face Curacao with both sides fighting for their tournament lives. 

Ecuador were handed a devastating blow as they lost 1-0 to Ivory Coast in added time, while Curacao were taken to the cleaners by Germany, but did score a famous World Cup goal. Below you can find my Ecuador vs Curacao Bet Builder Tips.

Ecuador to win both halves

Curacao looked pretty bad against Germany, which is an obvious thing to say given they conceded seven. This group looks really tough for them and I would be surprised if they pick up a single point, with Ecuador and Ivory Coast two strong teams. 

Ecuador’s hopes of qualification were seriously damaged by their 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast, given those two were expected to battle it out for second place behind Germany. Now they simply have to beat Curacao, and beat them well to give them any serious chance of qualifying for the knockouts. 

Their strong defence saw them make it to the finals, but we will need to see more at the top end of the pitch to think they can challenge the top two in Group E. Fortunately for them, I believe Curacao’s level is so low they should be able to win both halves comfortably. 

Enner Valencia to score (Sub Switch)

The captain and Ecuador’s main man should be able to find the net given how leaky Curacao looked vs Germany. Valencia has more goals for his country than anybody else, 49 in 106 appearances, but he was majorly disappointing against Ivory Coast as he amassed just one shot in total, which was off target. 

I think Ecuador will dominate this game however, and his class in front of goal for his country cannot be questioned. He’s a reasonable price to find the net at anytime, so let’s add that one to our Bet Builder.

You’ll notice that I have steered away from any card picks in this Bet Builder, and that is completely deliberate. Germany vs Curacao had zero yellows, which tends to be the case for one-sided encounters and the same pattern could follow here. 

Instead I’m backing Livano Comenencia, the Curacao central midfielder to land a shot on target. He was the holding midfielder in the 4-4-2 diamond formation, but scored the most famous goal in his country’s history in the Germany defeat and is a huge price to land another effort on target. 

Curacao managed eight total shots, two on target, and those numbers could go up against Ecuador. Amazingly, Comenencia had two of those shots, one on target, so I believe he’s the value pick when picking out a player to have a shot on goal.
