Colombia vs Ecuador Prediction: Diaz to dazzle again in Barranquilla

Colombia made a strong start to their 2026 Fifa World Cup qualification campaign, winning half and drawing the other half of their first eight games. However, Los Cafeteros have now lost two of their last three matches and Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Uruguay in Montevideo saw them overtaken in second by the same opponents, albeit they are level on 19 points with La Celeste and are still on course to achieve their top-six aims.
Ecuador, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last four qualifiers and can draw level on points with their next opponents with a win at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez in Barranquilla on Tuesday (23:00). Below is my Colombia vs Ecuador prediction, complete with all the latest team news and match odds.
Colombia vs Ecuador Betting Tips
Team News
Colombia head coach Nestor Lorenzo could make a couple of changes to his starting XI after last weekend's late defeat to Uruguay.
James Rodriguez (Rayo Vallecano) and Rafael Borre (Internacional) both came on in the 72nd minute in Montevideo and could come into the lineup on Tuesday, assuming the former shakes off a fitness issue. Juan Quintero (Racing Club) and Jhon Duran (Aston Villa) made way for the duo and their spots in the side are at risk in Barranquilla, although Quintero will hope that his goal - a clever free-kick to open the scoring in the Uruguayan capital - will be enough to earn him back-to-back starts.
Jhon Cordoba (Krasnodar) might be a more obvious replacement for Duran, though, having missed out in Montevideo due to suspension.
Yerry Mina (Cagliari), Carlos Cuesta (Genk) and Santiago Arias (Bahia) are options if Lorenzo wants to make any alterations in defence, while midfielder Carlos Andres Gomez (Stade Rennais) will be looking for more minutes after scoring as a late substitute last time out.
Moises Caicedo (Chelsea) is back available for Ecuador after serving a one-game suspension for an accumulation of yellow card in La Tri's 4-0 demolition of Bolivia in Guayaquil last Friday. The 23-year-old is likely to replace Pedro Vite (Vancouver Whitecaps) in midfield unless boss Sebastian Beccacece opts to play both in a three alongside Alan Franco (Atletico Mineiro).
Enner Valencia (Internacional) and Alan Minda (Cercle Brugge) struck either side of a brace from Gonzalo Plata (Flamengo) last week and the trio are all likely to start in attack on Tuesday, with the starting spot of John Yeboah (Venezia) perhaps most at risk if Beccacece plumps for another defender or midfielder.

Colombia are 4/7 to make it a fifth victory in six home qualifiers, giving Los Cafeteros an implied win probability of 63.6%, while Ecuador are 9/2, or an 18.2% chance, to triumph on their travels for a second time in this campaign.
The draw is available at 12/5, both teams to score at 11/8, and over 2.5 total goals at 6/4.
Cordoba, Duran and Liverpool's Luis Diaz (all 15/8) are the favourites in the anytime goalscorer market, where you can back Valencia at 16/5 for the visitors.
Match Result & Total Goals Under/Over 2.5 Goals – Colombia & Under 2.5 Goals @ 9/5
Colombia have suffered two defeats in their last three games and the latest of them was desperately disappointing as they led until the 57th minute in Montevideo before Davinson Sanchez (Galatasaray) put through his own net. Los Cafeteros even fought back from 2-1 down to equalise in the sixth minute of added time but Manuel Ugarte (Manchester United) popped up five minutes later to claim all three points for La Celeste.
Nevertheless, back on home soil, Colombia should be confident of getting back to winning ways on Tuesday.
Lorenzo's side are undefeated in five Barranquilla qualifiers this campaign, beating Venezuela (1-0), Brazil, Argentina (both 2-1) and Chile (4-0), as well as drawing with Uruguay (2-2). Two of those wins saw them keep a clean sheet and they have recorded five shutouts in total after holding Chile and Ecuador to goalless draws on their travels, as well as beating Paraguay 1-0 in Asuncion last November.
Los Cafeteros haven't been as solid of late, keeping just one clean sheet in their last five qualifiers, but only two of those matches have been in Barranquilla, and the side they failed to stop scoring there was reigning World Cup and Copa America champions Argentina.
Ecuador, meanwhile, have scored just twice on their travels and both goals came in the same game - a 2-1 win over Bolivia in La Paz. Aside from that victory, La Tri have blanked away to Argentina (1-0), Venezuela (0-0), Brazil (1-0) and Uruguay (0-0).
Beccacece's charges hit four past Bolivia last week but that was at home and all four goals came after the 24th-minute dismissal of La Verde defender Jose Sagredo (Bolivar). They've not scored against Colombia since thrashing their South American rivals 6-1 in Quito in November 2020, failing to breach Los Cafeteros' defence in three subsequent contests - a 1-0 victory for Tuesday's hosts followed by a couple of goalless draws.
Ecuador last struck in Colombia in a 3-1 defeat in March 2016 and their wait for a goal in Barranquilla looks set to continue.
I'm backing Colombia to thwart any Ecuadorian attempts to score on Tuesday, while I believe Lorenzo's side will take all three points.
However, I don't anticipate many goals as 54.5 per cent (six) of their 11 qualifiers so far have produced under 2.5 total goals, while it's 72.7 per cent (eight) for Ecuador, who have seen four of their away outings finish without a goal or with just one.

Anytime Goalscorer – Luis Diaz (COL) @ 15/8
Diaz was kept quiet by Uruguay on Saturday, failing to even muster an effort at goal, despite playing for the duration of the game.
It's hard to imagine that he will nullified to such an extent again on Tuesday, especially as Colombia are playing on home soil, where the Liverpool winger has scored three of his four goals in qualifying.
The 27-year-old was on the scoresheet in his country's last game in Barranquilla, the 4-0 victory over Chile last month, when he doubled the lead following Sanchez's 34th-minute opener.
Diaz has been in great goalscoring form for his club this season, netting nine times across three competitions (five goals in the Premier League, three in the Uefa Champions League, and one in the Carabao Cup).
The rest of Colombia's attackers are at risk of rotation but his spot in the starting XI should be secure and I'm expecting the Barrancas-born forward to raise his level for the visit of Ecuador on Tuesday.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
