Canada to win both halves
Leading off with the biggest price in this six-leg Bet Builder but this is quite the gut-feel pick. I thought the Canadians played really well in their opening match despite only coming away with a point against a dogged and defensively sound Bosnian side.
Qatar themselves can be more than pleased by taking a point from their match with Switzerland.
I just didn’t see much from Julen Lopetegui’s side. This makes me think grabbing that point was a bit of a fluke. They lost the Shots battle 27-5 and the Shots on Target one by 10-3, had just 30% of the possession and completed 290 fewer successful passes. It was a stout performance but with the backing of the home crowd, I like Canada to score in both halves whereas I’m not sure Qatar find the back of the net at all.
Total Corners Over 9.5
This is a simple one. Canada earned nine corners against Bosnia (giving up four) for a total of 13. Qatar gave up ten against the Swiss whilst earning three, for yet again, a total of 13.
The corner market feels low here as I can see wave after wave of Canadian attacks. I wouldn’t be stunned if the home team got over the 9.5 themselves without any help.
Akram Afif - 1+ Shot on Target
Almoez Ali might be Qatar’s top goalscorer in history but the manager seems to want him on the bench, leaving the Asian Cup of 2023’s best player Akram Afif to be their danger man cutting in from the left flank.
The 29 year-old didn’t register an attempt on goal in the Switzerland match but we are getting their best attacking threat at odds-against to have at least a shot on target. That feels like it is tailor-made for a Bet Builder play, certainly when you consider their best chances will surely come on the break as Canada pour forward. With his speed and skill, he can force Maxime Crepeau into at least one save.
Jassem Gaber - 1+ Shot
Another Qatari attacking pick based solely on previous stats. The defensive midfielder didn’t notch up a shot in their previous match but did so in five of the six matches he started in the third round of World Cup qualifiers.
In total, he’s had at least one shot in 10 of Qatar’s previous 14 competitive matches going back to the Asian Cup in 2024. Worth a roll of the dice.
Cyle Larin - 2+ Shots on Target
With Jonathan David’s availability in doubt as of the time of writing, Canada’s top attacking threat may well be the Southampton man.
He only played 15 minutes of their opener but came off the bench to score and had two shots in total. That is surely enough to get him a starting berth on Thursday. If he does indeed make the XI, then he could be a real handful.
Ismael Koné to be booked
I went with this leg in their opener and he let me down but I’m doubling down. Those three booking in five matches at the Copa America still look enticing to me.
Qatar’s best chances will surely come from fast breaks and Kone is the right man to stop them with professional fouls, breaking up play.
