Brazil:
Carlo Ancelotti is the man tasked with leading Brazil to a record-extending sixth World Cup triumph, although history doesn't favour the Italian.
Indeed, no country has won the World Cup with a foreign manager in charge. Surely, though, this record will be broken sooner rather than later.
The last time Brazil entered a World Cup having gone 24 years without winning one was back in 1994. Then, USA also held the tournament and the Brazilians defeated Italy on penalties in the final to end their drought.
Could history repeat itself this summer? Ancelotti has chosen a very attack-minded squad, but it is fairly unbalanced, with only five midfielders being selected in the travelling party.
There is a solid core there, however. Alisson will be in goal, with Marquinhos and Gabriel at the heart of the defence and Vinicius Jr leading the attacking threat.
On paper, Brazil are one of the favourites to win the competition. Can Ancelotti banish the memories of the 7-1 loss to Germany in the 2014 semi-final and back-to-back quarter-final defeats in 2018 and 2022? Only time will tell.
Morocco:
The big question facing Morocco is, can the Atlas Lions replicate their performances from Qatar in 2022?
Under Walid Regragui, Morocco became the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals, capturing the hearts of a nation, and the world, in the process.
Regragui is now gone, replaced by Mohamed Ouahbi in March, but the expectation to go deep into the tournament remains.
The squad is filled with talent and in a group alongside Brazil, Haiti and Scotland, Morocco should have no trouble making it into the knockout stages.
Ouahbi will have to make do without Nayef Aguerd and winger Abde Ezzalzouli, with the latter suffering a knee injury against Norway recently.
Brazil vs Morocco Key Players
Vinicius Jr (Brazil)
Brazil's talisman is Vinicius Jr. This will be his second World Cup and the Real Madrid forward scored once and provided two assists during the tournament in Qatar.
He comes into the competition off the back of a successful season, from a personal point of view anyway. The Brazilian scored 22 goals and chipped in with 14 assists across 53 games for Real last term.
While he isn-t quite as prolific at international level - just nine goals in 49 appearances - this could be the World Cup in which he truly demonstrates why he is among the best on the planet.
Brahim Diaz (Morocco)
Brahim Diaz has been excellent for Morocco since switching his international allegiance from Spain in 2024.
The Real Madrid star has since made 26 appearances for the Atlas Lions, scoring 14 goals. Against Norway in the last friendly before the tournament, Diaz opened the scoring in the eventual 1-1 draw.
At the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, the 26-year-old scored five goals in seven matches, although he did miss a penalty in the final.
If he replicates that sort of form in North America, Morocco will be a huge threat.
