World Cup Odds

Belgium

Failing to get the win over Egypt was a disappointing start for the Belgians and it extended their winless run at the World Cup to three games following a tame showing in Qatar in 2022.

Boss Rudi Garcia will at least feel they can build on that result here and he has no fresh injury concerns heading into this second game in Group I.
Romelu Lukaku, the Red Devils' all-time top scorer, emerged from the bench to win his 127th cap in the final quarter of the draw with Egypt and played a key role in forcing the own goal that levelled the game.

After the successive cameos off the bench this month, the 33-year-old may come in for Charles De Ketelaere. Sporting Lisbon defender Zeno Debast was unavailable for Egypt game and may sit this one out too, leaving Nathan Ngoy and the impressive Brandon Mechele to continue their central defensive partnership.

Brighton's Maxim De Cuyper is pushing for a start at full-back ahead of veteran Thomas Meunier.

Iran

Midfielder Saman Ghoddos was forced off against New Zealand with an ankle knock and will have to be assessed for this game, while Roozbeh Cheshmi was an unused substitute in that game and is a doubt.

Veteran defender Ramin Rezaeian, 36, scored Iran's first equaliser against the All Whites and assisted Mohammad Mohebi for the second with an inch-perfect cross.
He has netted in three successive international games and is one goal shy of double figures for his country, while he has scored at two World Cups having scored against Wales in Qatar four years ago.

Dennis Eckert plays his club football with Standard Liege in Belgium and will be hoping to see some game time.

Belgium vs Iran Key Players:

Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium)

He'll turn 35 next week but Kevin De Bruyne remains the focal point in this Belgian set up in many ways. He managed just 18 appearances with Napoli in the 2025-26 season, but he was on the scoresheet in this month's friendly rout against Tunisia and the midfield schemer rattled the upright with a free-kick against Egypt.

He also forced a save from the goalkeeper after typically arriving on the edge of the 18-yard box at the opportune moment and had more shots (four) than any Belgian player. He remains a classy operator and can bring players like Leandro Trossard and Jeremy Doku into the game.

Mehdi Taremi (Iran)

Iran's all-time leading scorer with 60 goals, Mehdi Taremi couldn't find the net against New Zealand but he had more touches (6) in the opposition box than any Iranian player.

The 33-year-old former Porto and Inter Milan forward is a poacher and a real danger in the penalty area. He scored twice against England in a 6-2 defeat in Qatar in 2022 and, with Rezaeian now joining him on two World Cup goals, will be eager to find the net again before Iran bow out of the tournament.

Belgium vs Iran Predicted Lineups
