River Plate vs Monterrey Bet Builder Tips: 13/2 for a tense tussle

Brazilian teams have led the way for South America so far at the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup, but Argentine side River Plate also won their opening match and are looking to maintain their 100% record when they take on Mexico's Monterrey in Group E on Sunday (02:00 BST, DAZN).
Fans of both sides should make for a lively atmosphere at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena as River Plate bid to remain on top of the section standings. Here are my three-leg River Plate vs Monterrey Bet Builder Tips, which would pay out at 13/2 if successful.
River Plate vs Monterrey Bet Builder Tips
- River Plate to win

Bet Builder pays @ 13/2
River Plate to win
River Plate became the favourites to win Group E at the Club World Cup when Champions League runners-up Inter Milan were held to a draw by Monterrey in their opening match, and the South American side look capable of getting a better result against the same opponents in Pasadena.
Inter had excuses for not being at their best in their opening game after undergoing a change of manager since the end of the European season, with Cristian Chivu replacing Simone Inzaghi.
Monterrey took advantage of uncertainty over their new tactics and a possible hangover from their 5-0 thrashing by PSG in Munich by earning a point from a 1-1 draw.
However, the Italian side still had the better of the game overall, and a classy team such as River should be strong enough to add another three points.
The Argentines finished fourth in the first section of their league season, but lost only one of their 16 games in 90 minutes and went out only on penalties to eventual winners Platense in the knockout tournament that followed.
River faced a spirited challenge from the Japanese side, Urawa Red Diamonds, in their opening game, but emerged with a 3-1 win after a promising performance. They look capable of adding another three points.
River Plate vs Monterrey Bet Builder Stats
- Both teams have scored in eight of River’s last nine matches
- Four of Monterrey's last five games have seen both teams score
- Franco Mastantuono (RIV) is his side's joint-top goalscorer this season
Both teams to score
All four teams in Group E scored in their opening matches, and that trend should continue in this game.
Both teams have scored in eight of River’s last nine matches, while four of Monterrey’s last five fixtures have also seen goals by both sides.
River Plate need to make adjustments in attack after striker Sebastian Driussi suffered an ankle injury in the opening game, but they have plenty of quality in their squad.
Franco Mastantuono to score at any time
Real Madrid fans are keeping a close eye on the performances of River teenager Franco Mastantuono, and they will have liked what they saw from the teenager in the win over Urawa.
Mastantuono is set to join the La Liga side in a £38.5m deal next month and showed up well on the right side of attack in the first game, as well as drifting into more central areas at times.
He is the club's joint-top scorer with Driussi this season and could get off the mark for the tournament with a goal against Monterrey.
