Luton picked up their first point of the Premier League campaign courtesy of a 1-1 draw at home to ten-man Wolves on Saturday, and Hatters boss Rob Edwards will be keen for his side to restore some confidence in Tuesday’s EFL Cup third-round trip to Exeter.

Luton edged out League Two opponents Gillingham in a 3-2 thriller in the previous round, and they head to third-tier Exeter as warm favourites in their bid to reach the last 16.

However, the Grecians are going well in League One with 16 points collected from nine games, and it is their third EFL Cup home game on the spin following earlier-round wins over Crawley and Stevenage.

Exeter vs Luton Prediction

  • Over 2.5 goals @ 4/5
  • Cauley Woodrow to score anytime @ 6/4

Team news

Luton remain without injured quartet Gabriel Osho (knee), Jordan Clark (ankle), Dan Potts (ankle) and Ross Barkley (thigh) and manager Edwards is likely to ring the changes ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Everton.

Tim Krul, Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, Ryan Giles, Mads Andersen, Tahith Chong and Cauley Woodrow will be among those hoping to feature in the Hatters starting line-up.

For Exeter, Ilmari Niskanen, Dion Rankine, Jack Aitchison and Cheick Diabate are all missing, while Luton loanee Admiral Muskwe is ineligible to face his parent club.

Ryan Trevitt limped off at half-time in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Oxford and is, therefore, unlikely to be risked.

Over 2.5 goals @ 4/5

Many will be expecting Luton to stamp their authority against lower-ranked opposition at St James Park, but Exeter may also be sensing an upset.

Confidence is pretty low in the Luton camp at present, and Edwards will be expected to ring the changes with Saturday’s crunch clash with relegation rivals Everton on the horizon.

Luton made many changes in the previous round as they recorded a 3-2 win at home to Gillingham, a team that ply their trade in a division below Exeter.

That suggests the Grecians can cause the Premier League visitors plenty of problems, especially at home, where they have taken ten points from four League One matches.

Exeter have also utilised home advantage in earlier rounds against Crawley and Stevenage, although they conceded on both occasions.

That means this could be a lively cup clash, and Gary Caldwell will also be demanding a positive response from his players after Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Oxford came on the back of a 9-0 drubbing against Reading in the EFL Trophy.

Both teams have scored in four of Luton’s six competitive matches this season, and over 2.5 has also landed in four of those contests, which makes plenty of appeal at the prices.

Cauley Woodrow to score anytime @ 6/4

The presence of Carlton Morrie and Jacob Brown means Woodrow has been restricted to a place on the Luton bench, but the 28-year-old is expected to get his chance to shine up top at Exeter.

Woodrow started in the 3-2 win over Gillingham in the previous round and opened the scoring after just two minutes, showing he still has a keen eye for a goal.

The Luton forward will be determined to show his worth to Edwards, and he could thrive against League One Exeter, who have leaked 14 goals across their last four matches.
