Coventry City vs Bristol City Prediction: Both teams to find the net?

Coventry City finally banished some of their penalty shoot-out demons last weekend as they overcame Sheffield Wednesday from the spot to book their place in the FA Cup Fourth Round. This Saturday (15:00 kick-off), the Sky Blues host Bristol City, looking to finally get some momentum going in what has been a difficult league season.
The Robins sit just four points away from the play-off places and are certainly one of the teams in the running, having picked up 10 points in their last four league matches. Below you can find my Coventry City vs Bristol City prediction featuring team news and betting tips.
Team News
Coventry’s injury issues are unfortunately still affecting their three most talented players. Haji Wright is on the brink of a return but won’t start this game, while it’s bad news for Ephron Mason-Clark and Ben Sheaf, both of whom are set to be sidelined for several weeks.
The lack of wide left options means that Frank Lampard could choose to persevere with the 5-3-2 system that almost got a result at Norwich and eventually overcame Wednesday in the FA Cup. Oliver Dovin has now established himself as the number one goalkeeper and a back three of Bobby Thomas, Liam Kitching and Luis Binks has helped the Sky Blues out defensively.
Jake Bidwell and Milan van Ewijk should start as the wing-backs, with Jamie Allen set for another appearance in midfield. Up top, Ellis Simms put in a good display against Wednesday and should be given another chance, while either Norman Bassette or Brandon Thomas-Asante could partner him. The former West Brom man has been linked with moves to Blackburn and Stoke this window but for now remains at the CBS Arena.
In the opposition dugout Liam Manning has a few injuries to deal with in the form of Joe Williams, Cameron Pring, Sinclair Armstrong, Marcus McGuane, Ayman Benarous and Adam Murphy. They are all set to miss this fixture but there is good news in the form of Rob Dickie, who is fit to return having missed the FA Cup defeat to Wolves.
From that XI, we can expect two changes with Dickie likely to start in place of Ollie Tanner, and Nahki Wells in line to replace Fally Mayulu as the sole striker. Scott Twine and Anis Mehmeti will play behind him in Manning’s 3-4-3 system, with Ross McCrorie and Haydon Roberts operating as wing-backs.
Coventry City vs Bristol City Odds
The home side can be backed at 23/20 to win their sixth home game of the season, while Bristol City are available at 12/5 to keep their four-game unbeaten league run going with a win, while a draw is also 12/5.
Over 2.5 goals has come in during 58% of Coventry matches this season, putting them above the average of 44%. That is priced at 10/11 and BTTS is 8/11 in this fixture, while Simms is the favourite to score first at 11/2.
BTTS @ 8/11
As a Coventry fan, I’ve seen the strengths and weaknesses of this team throughout the season. The weaknesses at the back are obvious and Coventry have now scored 22 and conceded 16 in their 12 home games at the CBS Arena in 2024/25, unable to shake off their lingering defensive woes.
Against Norwich they looked solid for 90 minutes but conceded twice in injury time, and they panicked once again when the board went up against Wednesday, dropping deep and inviting pressure on. That once again led to an equaliser, and now both teams have scored in five of their last seven matches in all competitions.
BTTS has come in during 58 per cent of Cov matches this term, while Bristol City sit slightly below the average at 46 per cent, however both teams have scored in two of their last three outings. I can see both teams scoring in this game so I’ll go for that as my first selection.

Draw @ 12/5
I’ll stay firmly on the fence here. Coventry have drawn three of their last four games in all competitions and I think they will put in another competitive performance here. Meanwhile, Bristol City are a strong team and I would lean towards them being favourites, but I just think they will be happy to come away with a point here.
Coventry seem to be finding their feet under Lampard but are without key players, while Bristol City were knocked back by Wolves in the cup. The Robins have drawn five of their 13 away fixtures so far, so I can see a score-draw at the CBS on Saturday afternoon.
