Fiorentina should embrace the distraction from their horrific start to the Serie A season on Thursday when they face Rapid Vienna in the Uefa Conference League at the Allianz Stadion (18:45 local, 17:45 BST, live on TNT Sports 10).

Peter Stoger needs to get a response out of his Rapid Vienna side after Sunday’s home defeat to LASK extended their losing run to four matches.

He is unlikely to make too many changes given the need to get back on track, with the exact deployment of Janis Antiste one of the key issues to consider.

The Sassuolo loanee has started both as a number 10 and as a full-on strike partner for Claudy Mbuyi at different points of the season so far.

But he is likely to be chosen as an attacking midfielder again in this one, and could transition to a more obvious front man if Rapid are left chasing the game.

Viola boss Stefano Pioli could go with a strong XI as he looks for a rare victory, and that will mean him sticking with a solid base at the back.

But that shouldn’t be their undoing on Thursday, and if they get ahead that might make all the difference to their confidence levels.
