Wrexham vs Derby Prediction: Red Dragons starting to get hot

Wrexham have taken time to find their stride in the Championship following last season’s promotion, but the big-spending Welsh outfit are slowly but surely coming good and will be hoping to put home advantage to good use against Derby (12:30, Sky Sports+). The Red Dragons have been on a fairytale rise up the divisions under their powerful owners and they spent a pretty penny over the summer, which has not been instantly rewarded.

However, as new players bed in, Wrexham's performances have improved and they come into this fixture with Derby having won four of their last five games in all competitions. The Rams, meanwhile, sit third from bottom having picked up just five points from six outings and they are bidding to respond to a 1-0 defeat at home to Preston last weekend. Wrexham striker Jay Rodriguez is currently short of match fitness and is expected to miss out, while goalkeeper Danny Ward is still sidelined alongside Andy Cannon and Liberato Cacace.

It was hard to predict Wrexham’s fate in the Championship following three straight promotions and they took time to adjust to their new surroundings with only one point to show from their opening three games.

However, Wrexham soon showed that they have the financial punch to be competitive in this division and have won two of their last three league games - at Norwich and Millwall.

The Red Dragons have yet to win a home league game this season but this looks the perfect opportunity to break their duck against Derby, who have taken only five points from their opening six matches.

The Rams had just two shots on target in last weekend's limp 1-0 loss at home to Preston and Wrexham look to be firing now following four wins in their last five matches in all competitions.
