We’ve got a sizzling Championship clash coming our way on Saturday afternoon as West Brom host Cardiff City at the Hawthorns (15:00). This one would have been a straightforward home win earlier in the season but a lot has changed since then, and Omar Riza has transformed the Bluebirds into an exciting and attacking team since he got the interim manager job.

Now, Carlos Corberan will hope his solid defence can stifle Cardiff, as his side look to end their run of five matches without a win. Below you can find my West Brom vs Cardiff prediction, featuring betting tips and team news.

West Brom vs Cardiff Betting Tips

  • Cardiff to win to nil @ 15/2
  • Anwar El-Ghazi to score anytime @ 6/1

Team News

Daryl Dike has returned to training with West Brom following another big injury lay-off. He's been out since February with an Achilles issue, and it is hoped he could return following the international break. Corberan appears to be sticking with his tried and tested methods in recent weeks, with the front four of Josh Maja, Tom Fellows, Grady Diangana and Karlan Grant unchanged in midweek.

Jed Wallace, John Swift and Mikey Johnston will all feel like they are deserving of starts behind Maja, while Paddy McNair and Semi Ajayi will continue at the back. Corberan rarely makes loads of changes so I’d expect Jayson Molumby and Alex Mowatt to also keep their places in midfield.

Riza is likely to name an unchanged XI as he did in midweek as his side beat Portsmouth 2-0, following their 5-0 hammering of Plymouth Argyle. That means Callum Robinson will continue up top after hitting three goals in five games, with Ollie Tanner, Rubin Colwill and Anwar El-Ghazi behind him. Dimitrios Goutas and Calum Chambers will look for a third clean-sheet in a row at centre-back.

West Brom vs Cardiff Odds

West Brom are priced at 4/6 to win this game, giving them an implied win probability of 60%. Cardiff are available at 4/1, a draw is 3/1 and over 2.5 goals and BTTS are both 4/5.

Cardiff to win to nil @ 15/2

I’m on board with the Riza revolution in south Wales. Cardiff have been excellent of late, winning three of their last four and going unbeaten over that run. The manager appears to have given the players a new-found confidence and they are scoring goals and creating chances at will.

I also don’t think West Brom are in a great moment right now. Five games without a win has seen them lose two and draw three, while their lack of goals is an issue, with just one in the last four outings. Maja has lost his goalscoring touch and while their defence has done enough to allow them to pick up goals, I can see Cardiff winning this game and keeping West Brom at bay in the process.

Anwar El-Ghazi to score anytime @ 6/1

This is the best value I have found all week, anywhere in the Championship. El-Ghazi has now locked down that left-wing spot for Cardiff and is playing in a forward-thinking side. He scored in the 5-0 win over Plymouth, has Premier League quality and in his last two games has had an individual xG of 2.2.

He’s had seven shots over those matches and I can’t see Riza’s side going into their shell away at West Brom. He could score plenty of goals for Cardiff this season and although West Brom have an excellent defence, the relentless attacking style could see El-Ghazi find the net at a massive price.
