Team News

Matos may call upon new loan signing Leo Walta after the Finn was added to the squad before Monday’s transfer deadline. The midfielder arrives from Swedish club Sirius.

Gustavo Nunes could be in line for a start having come off the bench twice since joining on loan from Premier Leaue Brentford. Incidentally, Nunes’ last appearance for the Bees before his switch came against Wednesday in the FA Cup last month.

Wednesday ought to have new signings Marvelous Nakamba and Joel Ndala available, while Crystal Palace loanee Tayo Adaramola will be assessed following a full week’s training with the Owls.

Boss Henrik Pedersen still has a lengthy injury list which includes Pierce Charles, Max Lowe, Sean Fusire, Di’Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa, Nathaniel Chalobah, Gui Siqueira, Ernie Weaver and George Brown.

Swansea vs Sheffield Wednesday Odds

Given that Wednesday have won since September, gained a point since December, or even scored a goal in their last 840 minutes of action, it’s understandable that they’re a 10/1 shot to win here.

The Swans are 3/10 for the win, at an implied probability of 76.9%, while the draw is priced at 4/1.

Swansea are 5/6 to win to nil, and it’s 13/8 for them to get the better of the basement-dwellers in both halves.

Swansea vs Sheffield Wednesday Stats

  • Wednesday have failed to win in their last 25 matches in all competitions (D7, L18) and haven’t scored in more than 9 games
  • Swansea were convincing 2-0 winners at Hillsborough in the return fixture in September
  • Wednesday’s last 3 games have yielded just 1 yellow card in total (for Blackburn’s Moussa Baradji on Tuesday)

Swansea to Win Both Halves @ 13/8

This whole season has been a living nightmare for Sheffield Wednesday fans. Take it from someone who knows.

Having gone from “Can we win soon?” to “Can we get another point soon?” to “Will we ever score again?” is not exactly the rollercoaster ride of a normal Championship campaign.

Of late, Wednesday have been ‘in games’, as the saying goes. But in truth, the second opponents up the tempo, the Owls are powerless to do anything about it.

And in Swansea they now face a side who have a massive incentive ahead of them as they continue their recovery under Matos following Alan Sheehan’s departure.

The hosts should have enough to make this one fairly straightforward, with goals in each half likely. And since Wednesday just don’t score any more, the ‘Win Both Halves’ option at 13/8 is a great one for punters here.

Today's Football Fixtures

0-15 Booking Points @ 5/1

Wednesday can’t get close enough to opponents to kick them these days, while their adversaries know they just have to wait to get the ball back rather than go hunting for it with any degree of physicality.

That might seem like a churlish review of how things are, but it’s a rough approximation of the truth. The ransacked Owls are too threadbare to be wasting energy going in hard on anyone, and opponents have so much control for long periods that they don’t have much tackling to do.

Hence why the clashes with Bristol City and Wrexham saw the referees keep their cards under lock and key, while Tuesday’s trip to Blackburn Rovers featured only a booking for the home side’s Moussa Baradji.

This fixture shouldn’t be too different, and the likelihood of their being two or more cards has to be on the low side. Which makes the 5/1 odds about this bet look like fantastic value.
