Stoke vs Millwall Prediction: The Lions roar towards Premier League promotion

Millwall continue their battle to reach the Premier League for the first time as they visit Stoke City (19:45 BST, Sky Sports+). The Lions are level on 76 points with second-placed Ipswich Town, though Kieran McKenna’s men do have a game in hand.

This game is a chance for Alex Neil’s boys to put the ball in Ipswich’s court, though Stoke will be in no mood to cooperate. Read my Stoke vs Millwall predictions below.

Stoke are suffering from absences in defence, with Ben Gibson (groin) and Aaron Cresswell (knee) expected to miss out.

Mark Robins will also have to do without Bosun Lawal, who is carrying a hamstring problem. In brighter news for the Potters, Ashley Phillips returns from suspension.

After a rollicking start to the year, Millwall have dropped off a little as their unlikely bid for promotion reaches the sharp end. The Lions have dropped points in recent weeks, only managing to draw with strugglers West Bromwich Albion and losing to Norwich City.

Things got brighter last weekend, with a 2-0 win over QPR at the Den. I think that momentum will carry against a Stoke team with little to play for as this season winds down, and with a defensive injury crisis to boot.

The Potters have lost three of their last five games, winning just once. They are a tougher prospect at home than away, but I think Millwall’s greater incentive will spur the visitors to victory at the famous old ground.

Neither side have been putting on goal-fests in recent weeks, with three of Stoke’s last five games registering under three strikes and Millwall exceeding that total just once in the same period.

With this being a home game for Stoke, I expect the usual resoluteness they exhibit on their own patch. Millwall will have to work their way into this and pick up a low-scoring victory. But whoever you’re backing, I think under 2.5 goals is worth a punt. It’s the usual order of things for both of these sides.
