Southampton host Sheffield United at St Mary's Stadium on Wednesday night in a midweek round of Championship fixtures (19:45 GMT, Sky Sports+). These two sides still harbour outside hopes of breaking into the play-off places, but both are closer to relegation than they are to the top six. Sheffield United are a point clear of danger and 11 adrift of the promotion spots, while Southampton are a point better off.

Stoke have won just two of their last seven home games in the league, and they are 2/1 to come out on top here.

Two of their previous three outings on home soil in the Championship have ended in a draw, with the stalemate valued at 11/5.

Boro have won their past two league games, and they are 11/8 (implied probability of 42.1%) to come away with the three points.

The visitors have failed to record a shutout in each of their previous eight away fixtures in the second tier, and BTTS - Yes is priced at 8/11.

Southampton to win @ 13/10

Southampton are on a seven-game winless streak in the league, although they have managed an FA Cup victory at Doncaster during that period, and the visit of poor travellers United looks like a good opportunity to end that run.

The Blades picked up 22 points in a 10-game stint from the end of November, but their form has tailed off, and they travel to St Mary’s after a pair of disappointing losses.

Chris Wilder’s men were eliminated from the FA Cup by Mansfield Town of the third tier and then lost at Charlton last week, losing a couple of players to suspension in the process.

Saints have endured a difficult season back in the Championship after last season’s relegation, but their home form has been generally solid.

They have suffered just three league defeats at home this season, and all of those losses have come against teams currently in the top seven, while they have picked up 14 points in seven games at St Mary’s since Tonda Eckert took charge.

United have nine defeats in their 14 league trips this season, and they have a poor record against Saints with five defeats in the last six meetings, so the hosts look well placed to end their winless spell.

Ross Stewart to score anytime @ 7/4

Ross Stewart has recently returned to action for Southampton after a lengthy stint on the sidelines with a hamstring issue, and his performance in the defeat to Hull at the weekend could see him restored to the starting side.

The 29-year-old scored five minutes after his introduction against the Tigers to take his tally to three goals in 10 league games for the season. Stewart’s other strikes came in a 2-1 win for Saints in the reverse fixture, and he’s only featured in four games since, meaning he has three goals in his last five games across all competitions.

Adam Armstrong is Southampton’s leading scorer, but he has gone eight games without a goal, so Stewart looks an interesting option at a bigger price.
