Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland Prediction: Away side fancied to edge it

A poor run of two wins from their last ten games has seen Sheffield Wednesday fall well off the pace in the Championship play-off race and they face another tough test when they host Sunderland, although the Black Cats' automatic play-off chances have taken a big hit with back-to-back defeats.
Here, Tom Hill picks out the best bets for this crucial Championship clash, which will be played at Hillsborough in Sheffield (20:00 KO, Sky Sports Main Event / Sky Sports Football).
Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland Betting Tips
Team News
Sheffield Wednesday have a number of injury issues, particularly in defensive areas. Centre backs Di'Shon Bernard, Akin Famewo and Dominic Iorfa all remain on the sidelines, while Anthony Musaba and Olaf Kobacki are also major doubts.
Sunderland have plenty of issues of their own as Aji Alese, Jayden Danns, Tom Watson and Niall Huggins are all long-term absentees and the Black Cats have been dealt fresh blows by the new injuries to key men Daniel Ballard and Enzo Le Fee.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland Odds
Sunderland have been installed as 6/4 favourites for the victory, while Sheffield Wednesday are 15/8 outsiders and the draw is available at 11/5.
Over 2.5 goals is on offer at 11/10, while both teams to score is priced at 4/5 and it is 21/10 for over 1.5 goals in the first half.
Sunderland to win @ 6/4
Sunderland have suffered back-to-back defeats to Leeds and Hull, meaning that they are now eight points adrift of an automatic promotion in fourth. They do have an 11-point lead over West Brom in fifth, so they look likely to have to settle for another play-off campaign after they fell short in 2022/23.
They have a young team with plenty of promise, but inconsistency is always likely to be an issue, and so it has been proven.
However, they beat Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 in the reverse fixture and could prove too strong for the Owls, who have lost three of their last four games, including a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Burnley last time out.
The hosts have one of the worst defensive records in the division and that could be the difference between these two teams.

Wilson Isidor to score at any time @ 21/10
Wilson Isidor has made a big impression for Sunderland in his first season in English football, netting 12 league goals.
His pace and movement make him an extremely effective striker at this level and with injuries to Sheffield Wednesday's backline, Isidor could land on the scoresheet once again.
