Charlton vs Sheffield United Prediction: Bamford and Blades to be blunted?

Sheffield United are flying right now, and the play-offs don’t seem beyond reach with the way Chris Wilder’s men are playing. However, they have a lot of ground to make up on the top six, and face a tough trip to Charlton this weekend.
Below you can find my Charlton vs Sheffield United predictions, featuring team news and betting tips.

Team News
Charlton boss Nathan Jones has made a couple of additions this week, with defensive reinforcements still needed this window. Harry Clarke comes in from Ipswich Town on loan and is likely to be used as the right centre-back in the back three, while Lyndon Dykes comes in to bolster the attack.
It stills seems like they are short of a natural left wing-back, with Tyreece Campbell far better further forward, but up top Charlie Kelman has found some form and should partner Miles Leaburn, with Matty Godden also close to a return.
Sheffield United have extended Patrick Bamford’s stay at Bramall Lane for another 18 months after other Championship interest, and he should lead the line once again. He could be partnered by Tom Cannon or Tyrese Campbell, while Gustavo Hamer may have to settle for a place on the bench once more.
Callum O’Hare should play from the left, while Jairo Riedeweld will play in midfield, as Sydie Peck continues to recover from his calf injury.
Charlton vs Sheffield United Predicted Lineups
- Charlton - Kaminski; Clarke, Jones, Bell; Bree, Docherty, Coventry, Carey, Campbell; Leaburn, Kelman
- Sheff Utd - Cooper; Seriki, Tanganga, Bidon, McCallum; Brooks, Riedewald, Soumare, O’Hare; Bamford, Campbell
Charlton vs Sheffield United Odds
Charlton are priced at 12/5 to win this one, with Sheffield United the favourites at 11/10. That gives the Blades an implied win probability of 48% while a draw can be backed at 12/5.
If you are interested in goals, over 2.5 is 10/11 while BTTS is 8/11. Bamford is the 4/1 favourite to open the scoring at the Valley.
Charlton vs Sheffield United Stats
- Sheffield United have won seven of their last 10
- Charlton have only lost three league games at the Valley
- Bamford has scored six in 11
Draw @ 12/5
Sheffield United are yet to draw an away league game so far this season, so that just makes me believe that they are certainly due one. They’ve somehow only drawn twice this term, but this is their first visit to Charlton in the league since a 1-1 draw in League 1 in November 2016.
Charlton have won three of their past five league games against Sheffield United (D1 L1), including a 1-0 win at Bramall Lane this season in Wilder’s first game back in charge. Although Sheffield United have won seven of their last 10, I think Charlton’s strong home form (W5, D3, L3) might just be enough to earn them a battling draw.

Patrick Bamford to score @ 6/4
Sheffield United’s upturn in form has coincided with the arrival of former Leeds striker Bamford, who is a striker that Wilder clearly really likes. He’s now scored six goals in 11 appearances in all competitions for the Blades, which is hugely impressive.
In fact, since his debut, only Norwich's Jovon Makama (9) and Morgan Whittaker of Middlesbrough (7) have scored more goals in the same timeframe for a Championship club. I think he could strike again against Charlton.
