Charlton athletic the valley

Charlton Athletic collected a very important victory at Leicester City last weekend to give their Championship survival hopes a boost. The Addicks return to The Valley on Friday as they welcome Queens Park Rangers (20:01 GMT, Sky Sports Football).

The Rs were 2-1 winners at home to league leaders Coventry City last time out, but their away form has been their Achilles heel. Read on for my Charlton vs QPR predictions, aided by the latest match odds and team news.

Charlton vs QPR Betting Tips

Team News

Charlton boss Nathan Jones will be unable to call upon Harvey Knibbs, Josh Edwards (both ankle) and Onel Hernandez (unspecified) due to injury on Friday.

Conor Coady and former QPR man Lyndon Dykes both joined in the winter transfer window to add some Championship experience to the Addicks' ranks, and they should start for the second successive match. The latter netted his first goal for the club at Leicester.

Sonny Carey is their top scorer in the league with seven goals and he should continue in the team on Friday night.

Football Odds

QPR lost Karamoko Dembele to injury in the first half against Coventry last week and he is expected to miss out here.

Kwame Poku (hamstring), Koki Saito (unspecified), Jake Clarke-Salter (ankle) and Ziyad Larkeche (cruciate ligament) are also in the treatment room for the Rs.

Charlton vs QPR Predicted Lineups

  • Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Coady, Bell; H. Clarke, Coventry, Docherty, Chambers; Carey, Dykes, Leaburn
  • QPR: Walsh; Edwards, Dunne, Cook, Norrington-Davies; Hayden, Madsen; Bennie, Vale, Smyth; Kone

Today's Football Fixtures

Charlton vs QPR Odds

Charlton have won two of their last four league games and they are 7/4 (implied probability of 36.4%) to come out on top.

QPR's previous two away trips in the second tier have ended in stalemates, with the draw marketed at 21/10.

The visitors are 13/8 to collect the three points and make it two wins on the spin.

QPR were 3-1 winners when the sides met at Loftus Road in August and BTTS - Yes is available at 10/11 on this occasion.

Charlton vs QPR Stats

  • Charlton have won 2 of their last 4 home games in the league
  • QPR have won just 1 of their last 9 away games in the Championship
  • Lyndon Dykes scored his 1st Charlton goal against Leicester last week

Match Result - Charlton @ 7/4

Charlton's tails will be up after a professional victory at Leicester City last weekend and now they sit three points above the relegation zone. They will look to extend that gap at home on Friday.

Wins have not been that common for the Addicks in recent months but they should be confident coming into this clash. While QPR did take down Coventry last time out, the Hoops have really struggled on their travels, having won just one of their past nine away trips in the Championship (D4 L4).

Julien Stephan's side are in the chasing pack for the play-off race but unless they arrest their away form, it is hard to see them staking a strong claim on the top six. Charlton will be fired up for this clash and I think they have what it takes to grind out a valuable three points on Friday night.

Anytime Goalscorer - Lyndon Dykes @ 2/1

If you have regularly read any of my content on Betfred Insights, you know that I rarely pass up an opportunity to back a player to score against his former club. I am confident this will be the case for Charlton striker Dykes on Friday night.

The Scotland international left Birmingham City in January in search of more game time to bolster his chances of making the World Cup squad. He brought valuable Championship experience to the Addicks and has the attributes of a front man that can thrive in a Jones team.

The forward has made four league appearances for Charlton so far and has contributed a goal and an assist. He opened his account at Leicester last week with a clever finish and this was his first league goal since September, so this should do wonders for his confidence.

He gets another crack at one of his former employers on Friday and I think he can get on the scoresheet again. QPR are a side who are nervy when playing away from home and Dykes can profit from that by making himself a nuisance.
