Charlton vs Bristol City Prediction: Will Hodgson revive Robins?

I know the Championship is absolutely impossible to predict - but seeing Roy Hodgson back in the dugout at the age of 78 is something I just didn’t see coming.
After the exit of Gerhard Struber, his new Bristol City side travel to face Charlton Athletic (15:00 BST, Sky Sports+), with the Addicks looking to hit the 50-point mark. Below you can find my Charlton vs Bristol City predictions featuring betting tips and more.

Team News
Nathan Jones may throw Charlie Kelman into the starting XI after his side drew a blank in the last game before the international break against Norwich, while Conor Coady is also pushing for a start.
It will be interesting to see what happens in goal, with Thomas Kaminski left out since his injury - and with Will Mannion doing well since coming into the side, the latter is likely to keep his place.
Hodgson’s humorous first press conference made it apparent that he was unaware of the massive injury crisis at Ashton Gate. Defenders Rob Atkinson, George Tanner and Rob Dickie are all out of the season so Jason Knight may once again fill in at the back - or the gaffer may move away from Struber’s back three.
Luke McNally and Joe Williams have been sidelined recently and will need to be assessed, so Hodgson may have another sort of headache, having joked about having one after shouting ‘more than I have in years’ in his first training session.
Charlton vs Bristol City Predicted Lineups
- Charlton - Mannion; Ramsay, Coady, Bell; H. Clarke, Carey, Coventry, Docherty, Chambers; Dykes, Kelman
- Bristol City - Vitek; Eile, Knight, Borges; Sykes, Randell, Bird, McCrorie; Horvat, Riis, Twine
Charlton are priced at 6/4 to win this game, giving them an implied win probability of 40% while Bristol City are 9/5 to take the points. A draw is 23/10, over 2.5 goals is 11/10 and BTTS is 5/6.
Kelman and Matty Godden are both 11/2 to open the scoring at the Valley, with Lyndon Dykes is 6/1.
Charlton vs Bristol City Stats
- Charlton have seen under 2.5 goals in their last seven games
- Charlton have picked up 28 of their 48 points at home
- Bristol City are winless in six
Charlton to win @ 6/4
I’m not 100% sure about Hodgson coming into Bristol City, even though it probably was the right decision to part ways with Struber. The Robins have been hammered with injury issues, they aren’t going up or down this season, and so it is difficult to see them kicking on over the final few weeks.
Meanwhile, Charlton’s pre-season target of survival is edging closer, with Nathan Jones now just one victory away from that 50-point mark. The Addicks have improved since making some defensive additions in January, and they’ve picked up 28 of their 48 points at home this term. I think they should be able to edge this one.

Under 2.5 goals @ 8/11
The last seven Charlton games have seen under 2.5 goals and I can’t see the run coming to an end here. Jones is an astute manager and the Addicks have seen 66% of their games this term ending with fewer than three goals - by far the highest figure in the league.
Bristol City may have an injury-hit defence, but Hodgson will instill an organised mentality and that should see this game be quite a stodgy affair. Under 2.5 goals looks to be a decent shout as a result.
