Saturday’s BTTS Tips column consists of seven matches across four leagues and is priced up at 22/1 as we look for our third double-digit winner of the young season…

BTTS Tips – Saturday 16 September, 2023

  • Back BTTS Yes in Manchester United vs Brighton & Hove Albion @ 2/5
  • Back BTTS Yes in Derby County vs Portsmouth @ 8/11
  • Back BTTS Yes in MK Dons vs Stockport County @ 4/7
  • Back BTTS Yes in Swindon Town vs Walsall @ 4/6
  • Back BTTS Yes in Wrexham vs Grimsby Town @ 8/13
  • Back BTTS Yes in Aldershot Town vs Gateshead @ 1/2
  • Back BTTS Yes in Wealdstone vs Altrincham @ 1/2
  • Overall Odds – 22/1

The shortest price on the docket for us in this BTTS accumulator comes from Old Trafford, which is quite the indictment on the porous Manchester United defence. Only once this season has the club kept a clean sheet and that was against Wolves in a game where the visitors piled on the pressure and had a dead cert penalty wrongly not awarded.

Last time out at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag’s side conceded twice in the opening four minutes. Plenty of reason to believe Brighton will score and United aren’t kept out too many times in front of their own fans.

Stats wise the Derby County vs Portsmouth game doesn’t scream BTTS with the visitors having the best defensive record in League One.

Yet, historically speaking these two teams have often both found the back of the net when facing off against one another. In 11 encounters this century, nine times has this bet come in.

Pompey are strong at the back but Derby are strong going forward. Think of this more of a gut feel pick.

Three games for us down in League Two starting off with a team who have gone six-straight games having both scored and conceded.

That side is MK Dons and they welcome in a Stockport County side who across their previous three games have scored seven and let in seven. Recipe for goalmouth action at the Stadium MK.

The top scorers in the division are Swindon Town with the Robins having scored six and five in their last two home games respectively. Before that they also managed to find the back of the net five times at Wrexham.

So going forward, they clearly have plenty about them but they’ve also seen opposition players score 11 times in just six games, just under a goal every 45 minutes.

Walsall are a sneaky good BTTS side having seen it come in six times in just seven league games. I’m expecting plenty of updates on Soccer Saturday from the County Ground.

The third game from England’s fourth tier is of course Wrexham, who have bought the season-long pass to this column.

There have been four games at the Racecourse in league play and in each and every one of them, Both Teams to Score backers have emerged with a smile on their faces. Grimsby aren’t an offensive juggernaut but until Phil Parkinson’s side show me they can keep a clean sheet at home, I’ll continue to put them up whoever they play against.

It was down in the National League where this column’s dream of a winner last weekend went up in smoke after an August filled with nothing but winners from our selections from the fifth tier of the football pyramid.

Not one to jump off the horse however, I still have two games very much worthy of consideration in this BTTS piece.

First up are Aldershot who welcome in Gateshead for one of the longest journeys of the season. The Hampshire club – just like Wrexham above – are four-for-four in terms of BTTS in home league games. The visitors had a similar trek just last week and came away from Eastleigh with the three points having scored no fewer than six times. All signs point to goals.

Lastly it is to Grosvenor Vale – the home of Wealdstone – where the home side haven’t shown themselves to be an offensive powerhouse but they have scored in six of their eight games and conceded in seven. Last time out Altrincham lost their 100% BTTS record going down 3-0 to Barnet, I’m backing them to get back on a roll this Saturday.
