Saturday afternoon sees another massive day in the Championship and in particular in the relegation race. We've taken a look at an afternoon game (15:00) involving one of the strugglers and given you our Bristol City vs Huddersfield Town Predictions.

Bristol City vs Huddersfield Town Betting Tips

  • Bristol City to win @ 13/10
  • Tommy Conway to score and David Kasumu to be carded @ 7/1

There's the spectacle of a load of donkeys running round a field on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately it's not the Grand National at Aintree, it's Huddersfield Town plying their trade at Ashton Gate.

I jest of course but as a Town fan it's hard to do anything other than adopt gallows humour at present, after a second-half capitulation at Deepdale in midweek. The Terriers were by no means bossing proceedings but they were the better team when leading at half-time and were right in the game with only ten minutes to go when a point would have been vital.

What followed was a complete shambles and head coach Andre Breitenreiter must face questions for exactly how open he left his side against a late onslaught from the North End side. That result means Town have won just once in their last eight and are hanging on to safety purely by goal difference above Sheffield Wednesday.

They now face a daunting trip to the south west against a buoyant Bristol City outfit, after their 5-0 demolition of another relegation struggler Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday evening. Liam Manning's side are sat comfortably in 12th spot and have overcome a sticky patch to win four of their last six and have picked up 10 points from their last four.

Town fans making the long trip south will be travelling with little hope of anything from this game, with more winnable home games against Swansea and a crucial six-pointer against relegation threatened Birmingham on the horizon.

Team news

Manning is without as many as six players for this one, including Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Rob Dickie. Ex-Town striker Nahki Wells and Anis Mehmeti could be rewarded with starts here after scoring from the bench on Tuesday night.

As for Breitenreiter, he will seek a response from their loss at Preston and will surely change up the side, giving chances to Rhys Healey who scored a late winner against Millwall and Ollie Turton, who has recovered from a serious ACL injury. Town are also without seven first team squad members.

Match odds

The hosts come into this match as the 13/10 favourites implying a 43% chance of victory, with Huddersfield an outsider at 11/5, while the draw is also at the same price.

This is expected to be a low scoring game with under 2.5 goals at 8/13.

Bristol City to win @ 13/10

I was frankly staggered to see The Robins on the right side of evens for this one, when I began this preview. City are 12th in the table and bang in form, whereas Town are fighting for their lives in 21st and are in terrible shape.

Huddersfield have a stinking record at Ashton Gate, losing on five of their last six visits to Bristol and 13/10 looks way too large. I would also not put anyone off backing Bristol to win and over 2.5 goals at 3/1.

Tommy Conway to score and David Kasumu to be carded @ 7/1

The 21-year-old is City's leading scorer this season with nine Championship goals and netted a brace against a sorry looking Rovers side on Tuesday. The Scotland U21 international looks to be a terrific prospect and should cause havoc alongside Wells in the Bristol forward line.

David Kasumu is a whole-hearted presence in midfield for the Terriers but lacks composure and quality on the ball at times and can be a reckless tackler. He picked up his sixth caution of the campaign at Preston and I can see him collecting another one here when trying to stop the City midfield from breaking.
