Bologna vs Lazio Prediction: Seventh stalemate on cards for I Rossoblu?

Eighth welcomes seventh in Serie A on Friday as Lazio head north to Stadio Renato Dall’Ara to face an in-form Bologna side boasting one of the division’s most miserly defences.

Heading into matchday 11 of the season, Bologna have suffered just a single defeat while conceding only eight times, a defensive statistic bettered only by Max Allegri’s Juventus. The downside, however, has been their inability to convert draws into wins, with I Rossoblu sharing the spoils on a league-high six occasions already this term.

Lazio, meanwhile, have drawn just once this campaign, with five wins and four defeats – alongside a solitary stalemate – evidence of their Jekyll and Hyde personality under Maurizio Sarri. However, four victories in their last five – including one in the Champions League – has seen a rise in Sarri stocks in Rome.

Bologna v Lazio Tips

  • Draw @ 23/10
  • Joshua Zirkzee to score anytime @ 5/2

Team News

Both sides have already been in action this week with Lazio afforded an extra day’s rest following Monday night’s dramatic late victory over Fiorentina. But eight changes in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Verona in the Coppa Italia should mean Bologna’s main men – namely Joshua Zirkzee, Lewis Ferguson and Riccardo Orsolini – are fresh for Friday.

On the injury front, Jhon Lucumi and Adama Soumaoro remain sidelined while Oussama El Azzouzi sat out the victory over Verona with a muscle problem.

For Lazio, the talismanic figure of Ciro Immobile is expected to be restored to the starting line-up following his late heroics in Rome against La Viola. Consequently, Taty Castellanos is likely to return to the bench, and Matteo Guendouzi could be another to drop out with Matias Vecino and Daichi Kamada among those vying for starts. Nicolo Casale, though, may miss out again through injury.

Match Odds

The evenly-matched positions of these sides in the table has been reflected in the odds with both 13/8 to take three points while Bologna can be backed to claim a seventh draw of the season at 23/10.

The two teams have identical records in the for and against departments in their last five Serie A matches, scoring eight and conceding four apiece. Both teams to score – which has won in Bologna’s last three league games - can be found at 4/6.

Draw @ 23/10

Backing Lazio for the draw might seem strange given their desire to do anything but share the spoils. However, recent games against Fiorentina and Atalanta have seen the side toil before scoring late winners, and draw was the latest result between the pair at the same venue in March.

Lazio’s results away from the capital are unremarkable on paper, though two of their three defeats have come against heavyweights in AC Milan and Juventus, and a victory over last season’s champions Napoli is evidence of their ability to perform on the road.

Bologna are unbeaten at home since matchday one with 10 points from five games bettered by only Juventus and Inter, who have played a game more on their own patch. Thiago Motta’s side are also undefeated at home in this fixture since December 2020, drawing twice and winning twice since.

Joshua Zirkzee To Score Anytime @ 5/2

The former Bayern Munich starlet is starting to hit form after scoring twice in his last three games. An early opener against Sassuolo last weekend took the Dutch forward to three league goals this season, already more than he managed during the whole of last season's campaign.

The 22-year-old also struck in the Coppa Italia in August, and he will be desperate to extend his recent record in front of goal as countryman Sydney van Hooijdonk - who scored in midweek - pushes for a first league start.
