Scotland to win
Bolivia are a very poor outfit when they aren’t playing on home soil. El Alto Municipal Stadium is the highest international stadium in world football and as a result, Bolivia tend to perform extremely well as other nations struggle to deal with the thin air at high altitude.
They finished seventh out of 10 in the group, before losing 2-1 to Iraq in the final of the intercontinental play-off. They won’t be at the World Cup this month then, but Scotland will. They have warmed up with a 4-1 win over Curacao, and now head to the States to acclimatise to the heat and humidity.
Although Bolivia will be fit, Scotland have plenty of quality and Clarke should name an extremely strong team as they prepare to face Haiti in their World Cup opener. John McGinn, Scott McTominay and Andy Robertson should all start this one and they should have more than enough to beat Bolivia in New Jersey.
Bolivia vs Scotland Bet Builder Stats
- Bolivia finished seventh out of 10 in World Cup qualifying
- Bolivia have failed to score in five of their last seven friendlies
- Lawrence Shankland scored 20 goals for Hearts this season
BTTS No
Scotland to win to nil, essentially. Bolivia scored 17 goals in 18 qualification matches and have failed to score in five of their last seven friendly matches, against the likes of Peru, Russia and Mexico.
Scotland’s first-choice defence should be able to keep them out, even in testing conditions. Expect an elite level defensive performance from a Scotland side who will want to make sure they are tight from open play and on set-pieces before their North American journey truly begins.
Haiti will be physical in that opener, and Scotland will want to make sure they stand up and prepare for that challenge in the best possible way. Clarke shouldn’t let his foot off the gas in this one.
Lawrence Shankland to score 2+ goals
The pièce de résistance of this Bet Builder. I’m really high on Lawrence Shankland’s hopes of a big tournament this summer, with the now Rangers striker catching the headlines having left Hearts for Ibrox.
He scored 20 goals in 34 games in all competitions and I think he is a level above the other strikers in this squad. Lyndon Dykes, Che Adams, Ross Stewart and George Hirst will provide competition, but I wanna back Shankland to start this game, and the World Cup opener.
Shankland is the most in-form forward they have, and Bolivia aren’t great defensively. I think the former Hearts captain can bag a couple and establish himself as the first-choice number nine heading into the World Cup.
