Blackburn Rovers continue their Carabao Cup journey as they host Cardiff City in the third round on Wednesday evening, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

Blackburn vs Cardiff tips:

  • Draw after 90 mins at 11/4
  • BTTS Yes at 8/13

Team news:

Blackburn’s Zak Gilsenan will be hopeful of another opportunity in this competition having scored two goals in two games so far this season, while Arnór Sigurðsson scored on his debut at Ipswich last time out. Sam Barnes remains absent through injury.

Karlan Grant played through the pain barrier against Sunderland at the weekend but is likely to be rested here after suffering a leg injury. Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey is also likely to be given another game off, after he missed the Sunderland win with a fever.

Draw after 90 mins

Cardiff have enjoyed an excellent start to the season under Erol Bulut. They’ve won their last three Championship matches, against Coventry, Swansea and Sunderland respectively, and moved up to 7th in the table. Many were predicting a relegation battle for the Bluebirds, but so far they are defying the odds.

For Blackburn, they have been difficult to predict. Going forward they are impressive, but their lack of defensive stability has cost them on several occasions. Their 4-3 defeat to Ipswich, which saw them come from 3-1 down to level the scores, summed up where their squad is currently at.

Cardiff were second best against Sunderland but came out with all three points, and it is tough to split these two sides. The 11/4 available on a draw after 90 minutes feels like the sensible choice, given these are two evenly matched mid-table Championship outfits.

BTTS Yes at 8/13

Cardiff’s 1-0 success over Sunderland was a bit of a one off in terms of goals. It was only the second time this season that the Bluebirds have kept a clean sheet and their games have been exciting this term. They’ve scored 14 and conceded 12 in their eight matches so far, and both teams have scored in eight of their ten matches in all competitions.

With the attacking quality of both sides, we can expect both teams to get on the scoresheet. Blackburn lost 4-3 to Ipswich last time out, and their last three league matches have ended BTTS Yes. Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side also smashed eight goals past Harrogate Town in the last round of this competition. This looks like it could be an exciting encounter that goes the distance.
