Football Bet of the Day: Bolton striker to torment Cheltenham once again

League One action awaits Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday evening (19:45) as they welcome relegation-threatened Cheltenham Town to the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

The Trotters are fourth in the table and they are five points behind league leaders Portsmouth. However, they have three games in hand on Pompey, while they also have two games in hand on Peterborough United and Derby County, who are in second and third respectively.

Ian Evatt's side are in an excellent position right now as they seek to claim automatic promotion this year and return to the Championship after a five-year hiatus. They will look to capitalise on their games in hand and they have an excellent opportunity to reduce the deficit at the top of the table against the struggling Robins.

Bolton defeated Cheltenham comfortably 3-0 in the reverse fixture back in August. There was a standout player for the Trotters that day and we are expecting him to cause more problems for the Robins once again on Tuesday night.

Striker Dion Charles turned in an outstanding performance against Cheltenham all the way back in August in his side's commanding victory. The 28-year-old netted a brace as he opened his League One account for the term, and that game really set a precedent for both his and Bolton's campaigns.

As we near the end of January, Charles' tally for the year stands at 13, and only four players in the third tier have scored more than him. He is a player who has been linked with a step-up to the Championship in the last few years and he is hoping that he will be able to take that step with his current employers.

His best return in League One came with his former club Accrington Stanley in 2020-21. Last season saw him post his best numbers in a Bolton shirt with 17, and he is on course to surpass that figure with a few months of the season still left to play.

The Northern Ireland international has been one of the Trotters' star players in this campaign and he has been one of the top talents across the whole division. Cheltenham will not be looking forward to coming up against him for the second time this campaign, and even more so when they will be facing him in his home surroundings where six of his goals this year have been scored.

When he is on-song, it is near impossible to keep him quiet. He often occupies dangerous spaces which allow him to receive goalscoring opportunities, and with his quality and confidence right now, you're always positive that he will convert his chances.
