Football Bet of the Day: A couple of desperate defences on display at BMO Field

My previous football bet of the day on Tuesday saw both teams to score and over 2.5 total goals land at 5/4 in a pulsating Euro 2024 last-16 tie between Austria and Turkey as the latter came out on top to advance to the quarter-finals.

Thursday's football bet of the day takes us to Canada for an MLS match between Toronto FC and Orlando City with goals the play again, this time coming in at 6/4.

Two sides in desperate need of a win meet at BMO Field on Thursday (00:30, Apple TV) as Toronto FC host Orlando City. Toronto have lost their last four matches and are winless in seven.

Meanwhile, Orlando were beaten 4-2 by New York City on Saturday and have won just one of their previous seven and currently sit in 11th, three points behind their eighth-placed hosts but having played a game fewer.

It's a meeting between two of the worst defences in the Eastern Conference; only CF Montreal (43) and DC United (39) have shipped more goals than Toronto, while Orlando aren't much sturdier having conceded 35 in 20 MLS matches.

Only Montreal (28) have let in more goals away from home than Orlando (21) in the Eastern Conference, but they will fancy their chances of scoring a few on Thursday as Toronto have conceded 18 times at BMO Field in the league this term - DC United (22) and the New England Revolution (19) are the only sides that have shipped more at home.

Toronto and Orlando have each been involved in nine MLS matches with over 3.5 total goals, and many of those have arrived in the last couple of months.

Six of Toronto's 11 MLS games since the start of May have seen over 3.5 goals scored while five of Orlando's 11 have finished with that minimum amount too, four of them in their last four.

Orlando kicked off that run with a 3-1 defeat to Los Angeles FC on June 16 before positive results against Charlotte (2-2) and Chicago Fire (4-2) preceded last weekend's loss in New York.

Toronto were beaten 2-1 by Nashville SC last time out at BMO Field but their previous seven home games - five in MLS - saw at least four goals scored.

I think we could be in for another entertaining affair in Ontario on Thursday, but it's anyone's guess as to who - if anyone - will come out on top, so backing over 3.5 total goals may be the way to go in this game.
