Shamrock Rovers' defence of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division has not gone to plan, but Stephen Bradley's side were big winners against fourth-placed Sligo Rovers on Friday night and appear set to finish the season strongly.

They head West on Monday evening to face a Galway United side who have never beaten them in 30 previous attempts in the Irish top tier. With their tails up, the Hoops can further climb the table by taking care of John Caulfield's side at Eamonn Deacy Park in our football bet of the day for Monday.

Galway United vs Shamrock Rovers Odds

Hopes of five-in-a-row for Shamrock Rovers have all but faded as Shelbourne and Derry City duel for the Irish Premier Division crown.

Rovers failed to win any of their first four in the season and have been chasing ever since, with eight league defeats hindering that progress.

Victory over Galway would see the Hoops moving to just four points behind Derry in second, though Damien Duff's Shelbourne are a further four clear of the Candystripes at the top.

Games are running out, but Bradley's side could still make things interesting and, at worst, they know they need to secure European football for next summer.

The Hoops spent the majority of July and August focused on various European qualifiers, the result of which was a spot in the Conference League group stage.

For their endeavours, they have a pre-Christmas trip to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to look forward to. For now, however, the focus is on matters at home.

Football Odds

On Friday, Rovers put four past fourth-placed Sligo Rovers in Tallaght, Johnny Kenny and Sean Hoare both scoring twice.

They go into this game level on points with hosts Galway, both teams knowing a win would hoist them into third spot.

The Tribesmen also have to deal with the fact they've never beat Rovers in 30 top-flight meetings, losing 25 of those.

Rovers had real purpose to their play on Friday night, on-loan Celtic forward Kenny shining as he returned from injury for his first start in a couple of months.

Bradley has challenged the 21-year-old to go and score 20 league goals this season, so he'll have plenty of motivation.

He hit that brace against his former club and, as a Sligoman, he would take joy in helping himself to more against these western seaboard opponents now.

Given their domination of this fixture historically and a win when the sides met at Eamonn Deacy Park in March, Rovers look decent value to build on that impressive rout of Sligo by adding another win and climbing into third place.
