The first offering on Super Sunday has the promise to be a real cracker as Aston Villa host Tottenham (13:00) in a crucial encounter in the race for the top four. Both sides harbour Champions League hopes next season and this is the perfect precursor to the top of the table clash between Liverpool and Manchester City.

Tottenham got back to winning ways against Crystal Palace, while Villa have now won their last three league matches in a row to put a five-point gap between themselves and Spurs in fifth. The result of this game will have massive consequences for both of these clubs and below you can find our Aston Villa vs Tottenham prediction.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Tips

  • Over 3.5 goals @ 5/6
  • Tottenham to score two or more @ 8/11

Team News

Villa got through a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Ajax on Thursday night, and although Ezri Konsa was sent off, his suspension does not impact Premier League matches. Emi Buendia and Tyrone Mings are long-term absentees while Jacob Ramsey was forced off at Luton and missed the trip to Amsterdam.

Richarlison could return after his knee injury for this one, while Spurs could also welcome back influential right-back Pedro Porro to the fold. Fraser Forster, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon all remain out long-term, but Ange Postecoglou has a relatively strong squad at his disposal.

Match Odds

Aston Villa are priced at 11/8 to win this game, with Tottenham priced at 13/8 to take all three points. A draw is available at 3/1, BTTS is 1/3, and over 2.5 goals is 1/3.

Over 3.5 goals @ 5/6

These two have seriously dangerous attacks. They’ve scored 114 league goals between them this term, and are the fourth and sixth-highest scorers in the division this year so far. With Ollie Watkins enjoying the season of his life, Villa have scored nine goals in their last three Premier League matches.

Meanwhile, Spurs scored three against Palace last time out and have had a midweek break to prepare for this game. With James Maddison, Heung-min Son and Brennan Johnson all flying, they possess immense attacking quality and so we should be treated to a thriller game at Villa Park. Strap yourselves in, I’m expecting goals.

Tottenham to score two or more @ 8/11

Another goals based pick here, but I actually believe Spurs will be able to seriously trouble Aston Villa’s defence. They may have kept Ajax at bay on Thursday, but I believe that will have taken a lot out of Unai Emery’s men. In the league, they’ve been suspect defensively, conceding at least two goals in three of their last four Premier League games.

Luton scored twice, while even an out-of-form Chelsea side dismantled them in the FA Cup. The only clean sheet they’ve got in the league of late came at Sheffield United, who could barely get out of their own half. Against a talented Spurs outfit, I think we will get a high-scoring encounter, but Postecoglou's vibrant Spurs can take full advantage of this unconvincing Villa backline.
