A London clash comes our way on Sunday (13:30, Sky Sports Football), as Arsenal host Chelsea looking to strengthen their claims for a top four finish. The Gunners made it through to the last eight of the Champions League in midweek with a 2-2 draw against PSV, having hammered the Dutch side in the first leg, while Chelsea had no issues with FC Copenhagen in the Europa Conference League.

I can’t split these two right now and here’s what I’m thinking. Arsenal and Chelsea are both pretty dull to watch right now in the Premier League, with neither outfit kicking on well as we approach the business end of the season.

The Gunners just don’t look like the same team that pushed Manchester City all the way last season, and they’ve now drawn three of their last four games in all competitions. I can see this fixture going the same way as their one against United, where they dominate possession but lack a cutting edge without a natural number nine. 

They’ve not been flying with Mikel Merino up top and they are facing a Chelsea outfit that has won two and lost two of their last four in the league. The way the table has shaped up, both teams would probably shake hands on a draw right now. 

Under 2.5 goals

A bore draw is on the cards for me, so I’m predicting either a 0-0 or a 1-1, and covering both selections with this Bet Builder. Arsenal have been the stingiest team in the league when it comes to over 2.5 goals, with just 11 of their 28 matches (39%), seeing three goals or more.

Chelsea sit up at 64%, but in this away game they are going to be limited in how much they can attack. They’ve also not been at their flowing best of late, winning their last two outings by one goal to nil, so I don’t think there is any danger of them turning up at the Emirates and tearing Arsenal apart. A safe selection in my eyes. 

Under 9.5 corners

I really like this angle for this particular fixture. This Sunday lunchtime I don’t think you are going to be entertained, and with the Sheffield derby on the other channel, you might be better flicking over to catch some of that. 

Chelsea and Arsenal sit bottom of the pile when it comes to corners this season, with Arsenal’s fixtures having a total of just nine corners per game, and Chelsea just edging them at 9.1 corners per game. When you compare those tallies to Tottenham, who are averaging 12.7 corners in their matches, you can see how stingy both of these teams are. 

I can’t see either side flying at the other here, and feel the majority of the game will see Arsenal holding possession, trying to break down Chelsea without a natural goalscorer. We’ve backed unders on goals, so let’s do the same with corners, and back under 9.5 in total. 

If they both perform to their average, this selection should come in. 

Moises Caicedo to get booked

Let’s finish off this Bet Builder by adding in a yellow card, and my selection is Moises Caicedo in the Chelsea midfield. He tops the charts across both squads for bookings this season, with nine yellows to his name already, while he has also conceded a whopping 56 fouls, 18 more than teammate Enzo Fernandez. 

Only Liam Delap has conceded more fouls than Caicedo in the Premier League this season and he’s likely to have another busy afternoon, with Martin Odegaard likely to cause issues.
