Argentina Women will look to seal their place in the knockout round of the 2023 Women’s World Cup when they take on Sweden Women at the Waikato Stadium on Wednesday morning (08.00).

Sweden have already qualified for the last-16, but will be guaranteed to be winners of Group G should they avoid defeat here.

Meanwhile, Argentina sit rock-bottom in Group G with one point and must win on Wednesday to retain any hope of advancement.

Argentina Women and Sweden Women Tips

  • Sweden to win and both teams to score @ 5/2
  • Amanda Ilestedt to score in 90 minutes @ 6/1

Team News

Argentina will have to cope without the services of Miriam Mayorga, who will serve a one-match suspension for receiving two bookings in the opening two games.

Peter Gerhardsson may opt to keep an unchanged lineup after the thrashing of Italy, although the Sweden boss could decide to rotate his side with their place in the knockout round already secured.

Sweden Women to win and both teams to score @ 5/2

Sweden picked up a narrow but well-deserved triumph in 2-1 comeback win over South Africa in their group opener last weekend, before then breezing past Italy in game two with a comprehensive 5-0 victory.

They were particularly impressive against the Italians, meaning Sweden have secured a place in the knockout round in eight of the last nine Women’s World Cup finals.

The Swedes have shown why they are one of the tournament favourites, and with them only needing a draw to secure top spot, I’m expecting another routine victory here.

Amanda Ilestedt to score in 90 minutes @ 6/1

It doesn’t take much to work out where Sweden’s biggest threat is coming from – four of their seven goals so far have come from corners.

Amanda Ilestedt has been the player to take the advantage, with the Arsenal defender scoring in each of the first two group games including a brace in the 5-0 victory over Italy.

I can see her adding to her tally once again here, and 6/1 is a cracking price to score anytime, especially given how lethal Sweden have been at set pieces – all three of Ilestedt’s goals have been headers from corners.
