Anything could happen in Marrakesh on Monday when Zimbabwe take on South Africa with both teams still well in the mix for qualification from Group B of the Africa Cup of Nations (17:00 local, 16:00 GMT, live on Channel 4 Sport YouTube).

Bafana Bafana are in second spot, meaning a draw would be enough for them. Yet a win for the Warriors could send them through at their opponents’ expense. My Zimbabwe vs South Africa predictions follow, along with full team news and Betfred’s match odds.

Zimbabwe vs South Africa Betting Tips

Team News

Zimbabwe coming into this knowing that a victory would see them advance to the knockout stage for the first time in their history. And they do have a positive record in final group games, having won three of their previous five at this point of Afcon tournaments.

They’re missing Teenage Hadebe though, after he exited 37 minutes into the 1-1 draw with Angola. He will likely be replaced by Brendan Galloway, who was subbed on for him on Friday.

Sipho Mbule should come back into the starting XI for South Africa having come on for Thalente Mbatha at half-time of the 1-0 loss to Egypt on matchday two.

Elias Mokwana will be hoping for a start in the forward line after coming off the bench in both games so far.

Zimbabwe vs South Africa Predicted Lineups

  • Zimbabwe: Arubi; Jalai, Takwara, Lunga, Galloway; Fabisch, Nakamba; Dube, Musona, Antonio; Navaya
  • South Africa: Williams; Mudau, Ngezana, Mbokazi, Modiba; Sithole, Mokoena; Appollis, Mbule, Moremi; Foster

Zimbabwe vs South Africa Odds

Zim are not fancied for that first-ever run at the knockout stage, with Betfred offering 9/2 about the Warriors winning this one.

South Africa can be backed at 7/10, while the draw is available at 12/5.

It’s 6/5 if you think both teams will find the net, and Lyle Foster is the 7/2 favourite to bag first.

Zimbabwe vs South Africa Stats

  • Zimbabwe enjoyed just 37.2% of possession against Angola, and only 22.5% against Egypt
  • Teboho Mokoena gave Bafana Bafana a real foothold against Egypt, completing a game-high 72 passes from 80 attempts
  • Lyle Foster has attempted 5 shots in South Africa’s first 2 games, landing a team-high 3 on target and scoring once

Today's Football Fixtures

South Africa & Both Teams to Score @ 7/2

Zimbabwe have done well to convent a tiny percentage of possession into goals in each of their games so far.

But even if they keep that trend going they shouldn’t have enough against South Africa.

Bafana Bafana took their time to overcome to overcome Angola but eventually got there, and they have enough threat to make their superiority count.

Watch out for Teboho Mokoena, who has attempted seven shots from the base of midfield in two games in Morocco.

I fancy both teams to score – as has happened in three of the first four Group B fixtures, with South Africa winning to claim a spot in the last 16. It’s a 7/2 shout, implying a 22.2% probability.

Football Odds

Lyle Foster Anytime Goalscorer @ 8/5

Burnley striker Foster has been a real danger leading the forward line so far for South Africa, and I’m not entirely convinced by the Zimbabwe defence once teams have picked their way through their bolstered shape.

Having already caused problems for Angola and Egypt, I like the look of Foster netting at any point for an 8/5 return. Its implied 38.5% probability is on the low side in my mind.

Morocco vs Comoros - Anytime Goalscorer
