Team News
Tanzania boss Miguel Angel Gamondi has tweaked his line-up for the two games so far. His starting XI for the critical 1-1 draw with Uganda bore three changes from the side that lost 2-1 to Nigeria in their opener. A shift to a 4-1-4-1 from 4-2-3-1 was a case of evolution not revolution, with much of the same personnel carrying out the Argentine’s instructions.
The 4-1-4-1 looks like a wise choice again here against a goal-happy Tunisia side. With no injuries to contend with, expect line-leading forward Kelvin John to keep his place over Le Havre’s 33-year-old Mbwana Samatta.
While the latter is third on the all-time top scorers list for Tanzania, winger Simon Msuva is joint-top on 25 goals. The 32-year-old Al-Talaba SC wide man has started both games so far at this tournament.
Tunisia manager Sami Trabelsi has just one potential injury worry to contend with. Al Ahly midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane came off nursing a problem in the 3-2 loss to Nigeria. He is touch-and-go to play here.
Tanzania vs Tunisia Predicted Lineups
- Tanzania: Foba; Hussein, Hamad, Nwamnyeto, Mnoga; Msuva, Msanga, Salum, Miroshi, Allarakhia; John
- Tunisia: Dahmen; Valery, Bronn, Talbi, Abdi; Sassi, Mejbri, Skhiri; Achouri, Mastouri, Tounekti
Tunisia are the obvious favourites for this encounter, weighing in at 4/9 to win in Rabat. Tanzania are a 15/2 long-shot while the draw is marketed at 3/1.
In the goalscorer markets, Hazem Mastouri leads the way. The 28-year-old marksman has scored four goals in 10 appearances in 2025. Mastouri is 6/4 for a goal at any time, while you can back him at 7/2 to net the first of the game.
Tanzania vs Tunisia Stats
- Tunisia’s defeat to Nigeria was just their second in 11 games (won six, drawn three).
- Tanzania did not qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations between 1980 and 2020.
- This will be the first official game between Tanzania and Tunisia to be played in front of a crowd. Their two previous meetings both came behind closed doors in Group J of qualifying for the 2021 Afcon. Due to COVID-restrictions, the sides played both games behind closed doors. Tunisia won 1-0 at home and drew the return 1-1.
Price Boost: Tunisia to win both halves was 12/5 now 11/4
Tunisia are heavily-favoured in this one and with good reason. Tanzania are comparative minnows, ranked 112th in the FIFA world rankings compared to their 41st-placed opponents.
Tanzania have never won a game at Afcon and have only qualified for three previous tournaments. Conversely, Tunisia lifted the 2004 crown and have been two-time runners-up. While they failed to get out of the group last time, you feel this game is a free hit at rectifying that anomaly.
I think Tunisia will do so in some style, which includes doing the necessaries to go in with both a half and full time lead in Rabat.

Featured Bet Builder: Tunisia to score 2+ goals and win 5+ corners @ 13/8
We love to follow the form guide here at Insights Towers which is why this Bet Builder stood out. This has landed in both of Tunisia’s group games so far.
The Eagles of Carthage stuck three past Uganda in a 3-1 victory on Matchday 1. They won eight corners in the process.
The 3-2 loss to Nigeria was a disappointment, having gone three-down before clawing back respectability. But even during that defeat, Tunisia won six corners. I reckon they can easily pepper the Tanzanian back line enough to win plenty of set pieces as well as scoring the requisite goals.
